bbry passport, questions?

Hello all,  possible soon to be att cvustomer from vzw, but i do have afew q's inreguards to the passport as i've never been with a gsm carrier before.

1. wil the passport be ATT branded or will be unlocked?

2. software uopdates,  do they have to be approved by att thus causing a delasy inwhich i get the update?

3. does ATT have plans other then the share everything plans, as i will be disabling mobile data on the passport and won't need alot of that facy data.

Thanks in advance and sorry for bothering yall with useless dribble.  ;0

1. Most likely, all their phones are usually locked to them when buying from AT&T themselves. If you buy an unlocked one from an outside source, you can always bring it to AT&T and put it on your line.

2. Yes, sometimes. I'm not sure how it works for BlackBerry, but let's put it this way - I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 and am still waiting for the Android 4.4.4 update that Verizon already got.

3. They use to have individual plans, but now when you go look for them, it takes you right to the mobile share plans, which makes me think they got rid of the old plans for good now, unless of course someone already had one, then they're grandfathered in. If you don't want to use data, you can get a 300MB mobile share plan.

Just remember though, mobile share plans aren't 2 year contracts, so you have to get a phone using NEXT (installment plan), buy the phone at full price up front, or buy one from an outside source. If you get a subsidized phone, your line will cost $40, instead of $25 (or $15 if you ever decided to get 10GB of data).

Buying phones via ATT is always locked. If you want the BB Passport to be unlocked, then go buy from Blackberry US directly just like what I did to my parents BB Q10 when it was on sale for 15% off for the phones including 15% off on accessories. Sometimes buying directly from the manufacturer has its good points. Compare that even to ATT's Next program that could cost at full retail pricing vs 15% off the retail pricing.

The Passport is currently $599, $100 off from $699, but on backordered/out-of-stock.

There are other data plans but voice only plans nowadays are not economical in my honest opinion.

thansk guys for your prompt feedback,  now i just gotta decide if i want to pay $60+tax dollars amonth now or  wait til i get the device unlocked and only pay $45 dollars + tax I dunno,  I wouldn't mind a locked phone so much if it didn't come with so much bloatware, especially now that i can have att unlock it for me.

I will only respond to the software updates that AT&T is usually very slow at releasing.  I am presently running my ATT Z10 on 10.3.0.1154, which is an OS created by BlackBerry and released by them but ATT has not yet made official for those on its network.  It is very easy to load a "leak" or even an official OS from another carrier that works perfectly on my ATT device.  It does not void the warranty, it does not hurt the device in any way.  This way, you do not have to wait for ATT to get around to an update; you can have the latest improvements when they are released by BlackBerry.

If you do not know how to do this, you can PM me or ask me here, and I will step you through the process.

In general, ATT, do you have a target date for when the Passport will be made available?

Check the ShopBlackberry US official online store. The last time I went there to buy the Q10, I got a 15% off on both the phone and accessories retail pricing.
