AT&T need to update their CNAM for my caller ID

I have had my business phone number for a year and in all that time, AT&T  still is showing my caller ID as the last company name to have this number.

This is really awkward for me as a small business and embarrassing for AT&T. To be clear, I am not an AT&T customer, but I know that caller ID's come from the receiving callers database.

So you're saying you're a customer of a different cell phone company and only AT&T customers see an incorrect name in caller ID?

Did you ask your current phone provider to publish your phone number with your company name in directory services?

@formerlyknownas yes, correct!

@JefferMC Google voice is a bit of a robot. I assume that was done when I took the number. But caller ID comes from the receivers carrier and everyone else is getting it right. 😁

I assume

You know what assuming does, right?

But caller ID comes from the receivers carrier

It does, from information published by the number's owning carrier, sometimes through a bunch of intermediaries.  If "everyone else" (and I sort of doubt you've done a 100% exhaustive survey here), that does tend to indicate that Google is publishing your name with that number.  However, AT&T doesn't owe you--a non-customer--an answer for this.  You have no standing with them and no way to establish that you are the owner of any given phone number.

Google, your phone provider, has the responsibility for making sure your caller name is published properly.  So call the robot.

Actually @abode1 , it appears that Google Voice claims no support for updating the Line Information Database used by many systems.  Did you perchance have this number with someone else before porting it to Google Voice?

@JefferMC there is a way to establish that I'm the owner of the phone number. They can call the number!! And if the other main carriers have it correctly, (I have called people through other carriers and asked them) then AT&T need to refresh their database.

@ATTHelp , it's not marked as spam, just an incorrect caller ID.

Hello, @abode1! We understand the importance of having the correct business displayed.

We do understand how important it is to have the correct Caller ID name listed. We have some steps to take to change your display name.

  1. Go to your myAT&T Profile and select People & permissions.
  2. Select Show details for the number you want to update on Caller ID.
  3. Choose Edit for Caller ID.
  4. Enter the info and select Save.

Please note:

  • You may have to sign out and sign back in to see the new name displayed online.
  • The Caller ID name displays on phones that have Caller ID. It doesn’t override a name saved in a wireless device.
  • It can take up to 72 business hours for caller IDs to show an updated Caller ID name.
  • People may need to clear your number from their Caller ID record for your new name to appear.
  • Some home phone service providers may not offer Caller ID or get regular updates to their Caller ID info.
  • For AT&T PREPAID, the Caller ID name says Wireless Caller.

We hope this information is helpful, and please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you for reaching out to the AT&T Community Forums!

@ATTHelp I am not an AT&T customer. Your CNAM database needs to be updated so that your customers see my caller ID correctly.
