Roaming on Videotron in Canada

I am writing to express my frustration with the lack of coverage provided by AT&T in Canada, specifically in areas where Bell, Telus, and Rogers have no coverage. As a current AT&T customer, I am currently visiting Canada and I have found that the only network available in my area is Videotron. However, AT&T does not have Videotron as a roaming partner in Canada, which means that I am unable to use my AT&T service while in this area.

I find this situation very disappointing, especially since Videotron allows its customers to roam on AT&T in the USA. It is unreasonable to expect AT&T customers to switch to a different carrier while traveling to Canada, especially when they are in a location where AT&T has no coverage.

Therefore, I urge AT&T to add Videotron as a roaming partner in Canada. This would provide much-needed coverage for AT&T customers traveling to areas where other carriers have no coverage. Moreover, it would be a win-win situation for both companies!

I believe that adding Videotron to the list of AT&T's roaming partners in Canada would greatly benefit both companies and their customers. Please consider this request and take action to improve coverage for AT&T customers traveling to Canada.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Well let's cut to the chase.

AT&T does not provide any coverage in Canada. Zip. 0. Zilch.

AT&T does have roaming agreements with some service providers outside of the United States and in Canada Rogers is number one, Bell and Tellus pick up in places that Rogers does not.

I have never heard of that Videotron and if they choose not to partner with AT&t, or with any US service provider in canada, that is entirely their choice

There is definitely an agreement in place, Videotron have access to AT&T in the US.

That does not mean the deal is reciprocal.

From what I can see videotron has an agreement on Rogers. If it weren't for Rogers in Canada it would have very little coverage in Canada at all.

It works that way in parts of the United States as well. There are small carriers that have deals to roam on larger carriers.

But it's not unusual for a small carrier to have no reciprocals.

Complain to Videotron. Not that they will listen because you aren't their customer

@formerlyknownas

I am well aware that AT&T does not have coverage in Canada but is just roaming on the networks over there.

I am in an area that have no coverage from Rogers, Bell or TELUS!

However, here there is coverage from Videotron, an other Canadian carrier.

Videotron have a roaming agreement with AT&T in the USA! Meaning Videotron customers will use AT&T network in the United States.

However, AT&T disabled roaming on Videotron for some reasons!

Lets take for example Freedom Mobile, an other small Canadian carrier. AT&T will roam on freedom mobile in the Toronto Subways (TTC), but only inside the TTC! meaning AT&T is restricting freedom mobile roaming to the TTC since freedom mobile is the only carrier that have coverage in the TTC.

By the way, freedom mobile also roam on AT&T in the United States.

I guess I wasn't very clear. You have to ask Videotron.  I've never heard of it.  When I Google it, it claims to be an mvno of Rogers. Like any other mvno it makes up its own rules and may not have reciprocal agreements.

It's possible it's such a small Network that it cannot handle other customers roaming on its Network without significantly impacting its existing customers in a negative way.

This is clearly AT&T blocking roaming on Videotron!

If there is no roaming agreement, it would be Videotron blocking ATT customers from roaming, not ATT. Now maybe ATT is the reason there is no roaming agreement but they can’t block anything on someone else’s network.

AT&T can definitely block access to it's customers from roaming on a certain network!

From what I can see videotron has an agreement on Rogers. If it weren't for Rogers in Canada it would have very little coverage in Canada at all.

They do indeed have an agreement, however, they currently only offers their services in Quebec.

Videotron recently acquired Freedom Mobile and will be extending throughout Canada!

Videotron have access to certain bands on Rogers (B12, B4), but however, Rogers also have access to Videotron towers on these band.

The catch is, sometimes, the Vidéotron tower will have multiple other bands (like b13, b7 and b71) that are much more faster and less congestionned.

Videotron have a lot of towers throughout Quebec!

I will speak to Videotron but I highly doubt it's their fault.

Like I said, take for instance Freedom Mobile, AT&T blocks roaming on freedom mobile unless you are in the TTC (Toronto's subway)!

AT&T is blocking roaming.

I got to my device modem log and found this error message from the HPLMN (AT&T) when I tried to connect to Vidéotron network (302-500): ROAMING is not supported in this LA (Location Area)

This means that AT&T deliberately blocks roaming on Videotron.

Additionally, You see, normally, when a carrier have no roaming aggrement with the carrier, on Android, you will see "Forbidden" next to the carrier name in the Manual Network Selection menu. With Vidéotron, this is not the case, there is no "Forbidden" next to their name in the MMS menu.

You basically just proved what I wrote was true.

There is no roaming agreement on videotron for ATT customers. 🙄
