Lost cell coverage in neighborhood

Using wi-fi calling - so no problems when I'm home.

But once I step outside my house, I can't get reliable connection at all until I leave my neighborhood. According to the ATT coverage map, I'm in the covered area. The problem seemed to have started a few months ago.

What can I do? How can I report this problem?

Thanks!

Hey there @billh8, we understand how important it is to have cell coverage and for your device to connect to the AT&T network.

We'd like to gather additional information to better assist you with support:

  • What's the make and model of your device? This information will allow us to provide device specific troubleshooting steps towards your concern. In the meantime, we'd recommend for you to use our Device Support Tool for personalized troubleshooting.
  • Please let us know the city and zip code of the area that's expieriencing the low celluar coverage. This will allow us to check for any outages in your area and we'll also confirm if any towers are affected.

Feel free to reach back out to confirm the following information with us and we look forward to assisting you further.

Device is unlocked Google Pixel 4A (4G). (BTW, there are 2 of these on my account & none of them shows up on the Device Support Tool page!)

My area is the southern end of 90505.

According to the "Network Cell Info Lite" app, I used to connect to a cell tower about 0.5 miles SW of my location. But no more! Currently if I am lucky walking around the neighborhood, I would connect to a tower 3.5 miles NNW away.

Hello @billh8. we can help with a few troubleshooting tips that can fix connecting to the AT&T network.

We have checked the zip code you provided you have no degraded towers in your area.

Sometimes your device may have trouble updating. Here are some common reasons and fixes.

Memory issues:

Each update requires a certain amount of data.
  • You may have to remove apps or data to increase your device’s available memory.
  • You can back up your data before deleting it.

Network connections:

Software updates are done over Wi-Fi, so they don't affect your data use. Make sure you’re:

Battery strength:

  • Make sure your device has at least 80% battery power.
  • Connect the device to a charger before doing the software update.

AT&T branded device:

The software update releases on our website are only available for AT&T branded devices. Keep in mind:
  • The update may not work if you brought your own device to AT&T.
  • You can check with the original carrier or manufacturer for software updates.

By following these steps you will get the most recent version to make sure you have the latest features and device protection options.

In the meantime you can try doing a mobile device software update. This will help you determine if the software on your device is up-to-date.

Please let us know if this information is helpful.

We have checked the zip code you provided you have no degraded towers in your area.

But is there sufficient number of towers to really provide the coverage the map claims?

Like I said, I can walk around my neighborhood & won't be able to use Mobile Data 98% of the time!
