Do I have to get a different sim card for travel in Europe?

We can't answer that question You haven't provided enough information.

It depends on what USA plan you have and whether or not your phone is unlocked for the use with a different SIM card.

If you are prepaid, and unlocked phone and an international SIM may work. But if you have a cheap prepaid Android, it may not have enough connectivity to function.

If you have postpaid, you can continue to use your service abroad using international day pass.  Or is the phone is unlocked you can use a SIM card from a local service provider. It depends on how much you want to pay and how much you want to use
