Forced 5g

Why am I being forced to try to use 5g when I have no service. What is the solution to switching the data to 4g lte? The "Standalone" field is shaded therefore will not let me make the change. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Hello! We are happy to provide the information you need.

Please follow the steps below to change your network preference:

  1. Go into Network & internet.
  2. Select your primary SIM in SIMs.
  3. Tap on Preferred network type.
  4. Pick 4G (or 5G, which also activates 4G).
  5. Tap on Phone information.
  6. Scroll down to Set preferred network type.
  7. Select the option that offers LTE speeds. In most cases, this option will read as LTE / GSM / WCDMA.
  8. 4G LTE will now be enabled, and the 4G logo will display at the top of your device.

Hope this information helps.

@ATTHelp

Kelly, that is blocked on ATT (and other NA models of Samsung) android phones.  iPhones do have the option to switch to LTE only in settings

What are the steps for Samsung S23 to fix the issue?

@Ferg63

There are three or four applications which you can download onto your Samsung that will allow you to switch to LTE only.  Just go to the Play store and search for LTE only

These applications work until you restart your phone, So it is a temporary fix that will allow you to use LTE only. Using one of these I am able to shut off 5G and I go from one bar to two bars of LTE service. It's not really a significant improvement in DBM which is still in the  -110 to  -113 at home.  I do get better service out of my neighborhood

The apps do not work. AT&T is forcing 5g even when you can't use it. I paid of phones and will be looking for other service.

5G is a choice. My wife's old iPhone 7 (LTE only) still works with zero issues. Sounds like a Samsung problem.
