ATT data Slow Down Columbia SC

I currently have a iPhone 13 Pro Max on an unlimited plan through ATT.  My data works great most of the time except when i am in the downtown part of Columbia, specifically in the Vista area.  I cannot load pictures sent via iMessage, any of my streaming apps and other data intensive application's including sending emails with attachment's.  I can reset my network settings but that does not fix the issue.  It has been this way over the last few months.  Once i leave downtown as my office is located outside of downtown my service goes back to normal and works great.   I have no WIFI available when i am downtown as it is typically on my lunch breaks and in various restaurants or taking  a break form my work in my car parked.

Is there any known issues in that area or a fix for the lack of data service on my iPhone?

Hello lmarcuson, we're here to help you with data connection.

We know how important is to stay connected to data network to load your favorite apps. You can power cycle your phone (turn off and back on) or put your phone in airplane mode for a moment and back out to reset the network settings. If you have an iPhone, you can reset the network settings through Settings > General > Reset Reset network settings.

For specific instructions on how to use airplane mode on your device, check out our Device Support Center! After selecting your make and model, choose Tutorials > Connectivity Airplane mode (these steps may differ slightly, depending on phone).

In the meantime you can learn about outages in your area, just choose which service you are using and follow the directions in the article.

Let us know if this helps.

@Gary L   I have the unlimited your way plan with 3 phones and a ipad.  According to myATT app i have used 25.27gb of data so far this billing cycle on my iphone 13 pro max which is well below the threshold where it can be throttled.  My main device is a iPhone 13 pro max and my other device is a iphone 11 pro max.  I have reset my network settings multiple times but no matter if i have done that or not when i am in Downtown Columbia in the vicinity of Huger St and Gervis st there is no data service, well anything that will allow transmission of data.  My iphone will still usually 3 bars of service but act more like my old devices did when i was on a 3g or a very bad lte connection.  Thank you for your help with this issue

Are you sure about that? Unlimited your way is not the name of a specific plan, it means each line can be on a different unlimited plan and each plan has a different threshold for possible slowdown. The actual plan names are unlimited premium (or elite), unlimited extra and unlimited starter.

Thank you for confirming this information with us, @lmarcuson. This helps us narrow down what's going on.

Have you noticed any other patterns on when your service slows down? Does this happen when you go downtown later at night? If there are a lot of other devices using data at once, it can cause strain to our network and cause congestion. This requires slower data speeds to keep everyone connected. Please share the ZIP code of where this is happening as well, so we can see if something's occurring on our end.

Both of our ACEs make great points as well, as the specific unlimited plan you have dictates when your data speed may be slowed. As mentioned in our data usage tips, this limit can either be 22GB or 50GB depending on the plan.

Please let us know if this helps.

@ATTHelp  The zip code is 29201 where the issue is happening at.  I live away from downtown so am only there m-f during lunch time as my office is the first exit up the interstate.  I'm not sure which plan i am on other than i get the alert at 37gb about possible slow downs at 50gb which would put me on one of the higher plans and it is not that which is causing the issues as the minute i get back to the area where my office is and leave downtown my data woks as it should.   That picture below is the area which the issues are in.

Hey @lmarcuson, we aren't seeing anything going on with the towers in that ZIP code. Based on that and the information you provided, we want to continue this in a DM. Please check the blue message icon in the upper right-hand portion of the page for our message.

In the meantime, have you logged into our wireless troubleshooting tool for personalized steps regarding your connection? If not, please do so and see if that helps improves your service performance.

We'll be sending the DM soon, and look forward to hearing from you then.

@lmarcuson There are 4 different plans that you could have with Unlimited Your Way: Elite, Premium, Extra, and Starter.  They all have different points where they could encounter deprioritization.

Which plan do you have?

@Gary L   I have the unlimited extra plan but it is not a throttle issue or a plan issue as it’s only in a very specific coverage area where service does not work. I spoke with I believe one of the tech support people and they are opening a ticket on it to see if they can figure out why and to see if it’s just me or affecting others as well. Thank you for your help as well.
