Why is extending expiration date is no longer free?

I have a prepaid plan that I am only using occasionally as an emergency number - barely spend more than $3 per month - and have always a balance with over $200 on my account. For years I could extend the expiration date by a year just by calling the support once a year. And it was a free service. Since April 1, this service costs about $100. Why?

They were just being nice, I don't believe they're supposed to do that (I've never heard of them doing this before).

Why?

Because it's not making them any money to keep extending it.

Agree with the above, it’s not something they ever had to do. The way to extend your expiration date has always been by adding funds to your account and it takes a $100 refill to extend a year. Perhaps agents have been told to stop doing this but try calling again. You might get someone who still will.
