Notification to refer to Quick Start when powering on the SmartFlip/GoFlip3 phone.

I've had my AT&T phone since January.  Every time my phone is turned on, AT&T message "Please refer to Quick Start guide..." is displayed, and I have to either press the button "OK" or "Close".  This has become a nuisance, and no one at AT&T has been able to tell me how to get rid of it.  Is it possible to remove this?

I’ve seen this message with prepaid sims when first inserted, I think it’s a programmed message that’s supposed to just appear once, a new sim (preferably one that’s not a prepaid sim,) should make this go away.

We hope you enjoy your new Cingular Flip IVs, @!

Once your new phones arrive follow the steps provided at our Device Support Center to enable Bluetooth on your devices. After selecting your devices' make and model choose Connectivity followed by Bluetooth.

The guide will even include instructions on how to scan and connect to other Bluetooth devices and unpair a connected device.

Thank you for your participation in our Community/Forums. Enjoy the rest of your day!

According to this post (which appeared in a quick Google Search for the message, BTW), a Factory Reset fixed this for the user who reported it.

Thanks.  I've seen that, but I was hesitant because I was afraid to lose my phone book entries. I asked one of the AT&T people if that would work and they didn't know.  I think I'm ready to try it as a last resort.

Not sure the AT&T version will have this feature, but Big Pink publishes these instructions for exporting your contacts and restoring them.

Back up contacts

  1. Press the OK button on the keypad.
  2. Scroll and select Contacts.
  3. Scroll and select Settings.
  4. Select Options.
  5. Scroll and select Settings.
  6. Select Export Contacts.
  7. Select one of the following:
    • SIM card
    • Memory card
    • Bluetooth
  8. Select the individual contacts to export or choose Select All.
  9. Select Export.

Restore contacts

  1. Press the OK button on the keypad.
  2. Scroll and select Contacts.
  3. Scroll and select Settings.
  4. Select Options.
  5. Scroll and select Settings.
  6. Scroll and select Import.
  7. Select from the following:
    • SIM card
    • Memory card
    • Gmail
    • Outlook
  8. If importing from either Gmail or Outlook, you will need to enter your email account details. Follow the prompts to sign in and import the contacts.

Very helpful. Thanks.  I was not familiar with which SIM/Phone choice to use when entering the phone book entries.  I understand this and moving contacts better now.

So, I did a reset on the phone.  Lost my entire phone book, but not a big deal. Interesting that when I went to the on line site for quick activation after doing a reset, I was informed that the phone IMEI was already registered.

Now there is a slightly different version, smaller font?, of the message, but it goes away after about a minute or so without my having to say "OK" or "CLOSE"  LOL!  I'd call that progress of sorts.  My new Maxima, also has to ask for permission to use the phone book every time and permission to use texting, which BTW it apparently cannot do with this phone.  Just a little annoying.  I feel like a pilot getting runway clearances from the control tower.  LOL

After having been in touch with many AT&T agents by phone, on Twitter, and searched the web for a simple answer to "How can I remove the notice to "refer to the Quick Start Guide" once I have activated the AT&T prepaid  SmartFlip (otherwise known as GoFlip3), I have not succeeded in obtaining a proper answer.  My routine for getting the phone to work in my New Nissan Maxima is now the following each time I get into the car:

1.  Start car with phone on.

2.  Wait for "Please refer to the Quick Start Guide..." notice to appear on flip phone.

3.  Press either "Close" or "OK".  Doesn't matter.

4.  Wait for Maxima to ask for permission to access contacts.

5.  Press multi-function button "Confirm" on phone.

6.  Maxima then asks for permission to access phone book.

7.  Press multi-function button "Confirm" on phone.

8.  Drive off.

If you get in the car without doing these steps, you will not have access to the phone book or even to Quick Call entries, rendering making calls impossible. I do not want to buy a smart phone.

This could be quite an onerous task for someone who is in and out of their car many times a day for their work routine.

I wonder whether the engineers who designed the phone and the car ever had a chance to meet to work out whether this would be an acceptable sequence.  Surely, now that they know the problem, the software of either phone or car could be modified to automate these permissions.  Come on!

Hey there @wa3cat8613, we'd like to share some helpful information in regard to your notification concern.

There isn't a method available to remove the notification permanently. We're glad you've found a work around.

We advise to reach out to the manufacturer of your car to inquire if there's a system update or feature available that can simplify accessing your phone book through your car without the extra steps.

Also, you may need to upgrade to a smartphone. We offer great online promotions.

We hope this helps.

Thanks, but there is apparently neither a Nissan, Alcatel nor AT&T solution other than  new phones.  I finally found a tech at AT&T chat who understood the problem and he assured me that the Cingular Flip IV gets around all the problems associated with the old SmartFlip/GoFlip3.  I plan to just buy 2 of them tomorrow and hopefully solve the problems: turning off continual need to acknowledge startup notifications of QuickStart, phone book access and contacts access.  The claim is that the new phones will save "permission" settings and talk to the car's blue tooth requests upon startup.  We shall see.  LOL

Continuing saga.  I bought two new Cingular Flip IV phones back in June.  The AT&T rep "guaranteed" me that the problems I was experiencing would not occur with these new prepaid phones. Still same problems essentially, but more intermittent.  "Quick Dial" on Maxima screen is often greyed out.  Very annoying system.  How can there not be a fix for a software problem?

I spent almost an hour on the phone with w/a very patient person from AT&T tech support yesterday for a problem with the second phone not answering a call by opening the phone. Have to press green button to answer. Removing and re-installing the SIM card appears to have cured this, fingers crossed.

The "Quick Start" message still appears on my phone, but not on my wife's!  (Edited per community guidelines)?
