Unauthorized closing of account and phone number ported out.

After being a AT&T customer for 30 years, in January 2023 my landline phone stopped working. After calling customer service, I was told my phone account was closed (not requested) and my phone number had been ported out to Verizon (not requested). I was told by customer service that I had to call and find out why it was ported out. Verizon told me it was now with tracfone and I would have to call them. I have spent at least 10 hours on the phone with the listed companies and have had no luck. I have been switched with AT&T customer service from landline to wireless and supposed Port specialist. Each time I am told I will have to do the legwork. Several calls were just dropped and even a supervisior's call were dropped and never a recall from customer service. I cannot understand how this is my issue and no one can assist me to get back my phone number I never requested a change on. I was also told by customer service they could not help me because I did not have an account with AT&T. I did everything to try an elevate this but no assistance again. I looked up the Office of the President of AT&T and the numers listed on their website are invalid. I am left now wit BBB or a lawyer. What a shame to get no assistance after being a loyal customer for 30 years.

File an FCC or BBB complaint, that will get you a response from the Office of the President. You also need to watch all your accounts and change any that having that phone number would allow someone to access. It is very likely your number was specifically targeted and someone may be targeting you for identity theft. You might even consider one of those identity theft monitoring services.

I had the exact same issue with my father in law's line of 60 years!!  Here is a number 800-355-9542 That you can try for the Office of the President,  They are working on this issue pretty quick
