Spam Calls

Want to block spam calls from reaching my traditional landline phone

ATT has an app for the smartphone to block unwanted calls but not for the landline phone.  After hours and hours of chatting and talking with ATT support, it appears that there is no solution so the only option is to change my phone number which is very inconvenient.  Does anyone know of a solution so I don't have to change my number?

Get a phone with a good call blocker or a third-party call blocker. There's no way you're going to stop them all.

Hello colaianni, we will be happy to help with blocking unwanted calls on your landline.

If there are certain numbers you wanted to be blocked on your landline, you can  dial star 60. This can be used for 10 phone numbers. Once you dial *60. If you are prompted, press 3 to turn on the feature. To turn if off, simply dial *80 and press 3.

Some helpful hints for this feature are:

  • Make sure to include all 10-digits of the telephone number, including the area code.
  • Press 0 at any time to repeat instructions.
  • Long-distance numbers and numbers outside the calling area can’t be screened.
  • Some mobile numbers can't be blocked.
  • 800 numbers can’t be blocked.
  • This service isn't available in all areas.

Please let us know if this helps.

Sorry, ATTHelp but that is only effective after the call reaches the landline.  I get about 150 of these per week and want to block them before they even reach my phone.  I've been using your solution with *61 but that means I have received the call.  I feel that us older users that don't want or need a smartphone are being discriminated against and ATT is trying to force us to purchase a smartphone and data plan instead of resolving landline issues.

*61 doesn't work with a traditional landline. Are you sure that's what you have? I've stated what will help your issue. You're relying on the phone company's resources that leave a lot to be desired.

Why can't we have more than 10 blocked numbers?  That's not enough for the number of Robo calls & spoofing calls we get!!

*61 is working on my landline.  I wonder if it is because my phones are Panasonic with a call blocking feature.  The call blocking on my phones is full which is why I started using *61.

Has anyone used or heard of Community Phone?  They let you keep your phone number, you provide a list of numbers you want and they block all the rest.  I haven't tried it yet, still trying to find out if it works well.

*61 is a feature for AT&T digital phone service it has nothing to do with your phone. Does your phone system plug into a modem? Again *61 doesn't work on a traditional landline (POTS). I've given you a good alternative as far as your question on Community Phone never heard of it and what you're describing is a whitelist which a phone with smart call blocker will do. @carriage2003 same answer to you.

Looked up Community Phone, it's a wireless home phone service, did see anything about whitelist or blocking. You'll need a good cell signal for it to work reliably.
