AT&T cordless phone - incoming calls squeal

Occasionally, someone will call and there is a pulsing squeal on the line. Almost impossible to hear the caller. When I call back there is no squeal.

Any ideas of what may be wrong?

The provider is a home phone through Straight Talk which uses a Verizon Tower.
