LS6204 searching for base

the ls6204 displays "searching for base" and does not have a menu option while this is displayed.

attempting to enter any digits on the unit causes a beep sound but no response from the handset or the display.

the battery is fully charged.

This headset was purchased on ebay and must have not been de registered prior to shipping.  Since the LS6204 display wont changed from "searching for base" and doesn't have a menu option because of this  can there be some way to reset this entire unit or is it doomed ?
