Call Blocking and *61

We have already entered 100 numbers in the online blocking feature AND the 'Anonymous Call Blocking' is on - so our question is... will pressing *61 from our phone still work when we get direct calls, even though we have 100 numbers blocked online?  We also don't think we are doing the *61 correctly - when it rings, do we actually answer it, then hang up, then press the *61? How do we know it was received/blocked? (ATT is our service for our home phone landline)

You can access the phone features in your Myatt account and see the list of blocked calls, remove the real old ones as they've probably given up any way. See This link posted by AT&T. As far as Anonymous Call Blocking goes all that blocks is people who block their outgoing caller ID. To use *61 it blocks the last call received. So, if you get a spam call after they've hung up dial *61. There are 3rd party blocking devices and phone with built in blocking that are a lot better than phone company provided blocking.

TO:  spoom2 ---- thank you for your feedback - I have read quite a few responses you've made on many issues people have questions about and you are very professional and helpful.  I would like to double check that I understand correctly:  If I have blocked numbers using the online method, and they are already 100, then the *61 will not work unless some of those are deleted?  Actually, those 100 numbers have just been all blocked over the last 2 weeks - we are getting 'massive' spam and telemarketer calls, sometimes within 2-5 minutes of each other, between the hours of approx  8am - 7pm daily, but they slack up at night and weekends. We've had to unplug our phone from the wall at times, not sure how all this started.  We are contemplating getting a new number or disconnecting the home phone all together and just use our cells, but, there are so many people we would need to notify first.  Thank you for being out there for us.  I usually use live chat or call, but lately get 'no one', and most are not even in the US.  I just happened to see this forum and thought I'd try it out - I like it  :O)

It's my understanding that that once the 100 numbers to block are reached you have to clean out some to add more, so no *61 wouldn't continue to work.  Personally, I'd look into a phone with built in blocking, check the features to see which would best suite your needs. Some of the third-party blockers come with a good number of pre-blocked numbers from known spammers. As far as getting a new number goes, even if you get one they may eventually use that one too. Give it a while and they will probably slow down or stop, it might take a few weeks. Also, the best way to prevent spam calls is to not answer them, if you don't recognize the caller let your voicemail or answering machine handle it.
