Dual SIM Technology – Information From the AT&T Community Team
Have you heard of Dual SIM? Wondering what Dual SIM is? Wondering when it will be available? Already know about it and want to take advantage of this feature? We've got you covered!
What is dual SIM?
Dual SIM is a feature that allows you to have 2 active numbers, plans, or accounts on one device.
- A physical SIM - A plastic card inserted into your phone
- An eSIM - A digital SIM activated through the network
Note: With Dual Standby, both SIMs are active on the device at the same time (not all Dual SIM devices are Dual Standby).
What it does for you!
Let’s say you have a work phone and a personal. Instead of having 2 devices, Dual SIM simplifies your life allowing you to carry just one.
Note: Not all devices have the Dual SIM function.
Compatible Devices
For a full list of compatible devices and FAQs, visit our Dual SIM Devices page.
Note: Dual SIM technology is only available for select devices.

Dual SIM technology has been out for decades. I have a dozen phones that are all dual SIM. I even have some dual active ones. It just so happens Apple is making a big deal out of it and they're not even using two physical SIMs except in Hong Kong and mainland China. I wish AT&T expended some effort into the explaining this to the masses instead of just copying Apple's announcement as if it's some new development.
