Delayed wireless voicemail
For at least the last 3 years, sporadically, when someone leaves a voicemail on my iPhone it won’t appear on my phone until hours or days later. The problem has become more frequent in the last couple of months. This is an ATT issue, not an iPhone issue, and there have been droves of complaints about this issue. Does ATT understand that this isn’t just an inconvenience? I’m responsible for a family member on hospice. The hospice calls come to me with no ID, so looking at recent calls on my phone does not inform me whether hospice has called me. It is crucial that I receive these voicemails. And I can think of many other instances where receiving a timely voicemail could be a life or death matter. So why hasn’t ATT corrected this issue? The cost of my service keeps going up, but cost apparently doesn’t doesn’t correlate with quality of service. This has been going on without explanation for way too long. Does anybody in this forum know whether this is an issue with other wireless carriers? For years these delays didn’t happen, but now they do, and these delays can be a serious problem.

The only thing that comes to mind is that visual voicemail is downloaded only over cellular connection.
So if at any time the phone is off, or only connected to Wi-Fi for Wi-Fi calling purposes, voicemail has to be picked up via call in because it will not download until you have a cellular connection again
You can try calling and speaking with advanced tech support. And if visual voicemail is not working, consider reverting to using basic call in voicemail which means you'll get a notification of a missed call only

Thank you for your response, I appreciate your taking time to try to figure this out for me, however, that is not my problem. WiFi calling is off on my phone, and unless I’m in the middle of the ocean, or on an airplane, I always have a cellular connection on my phone. And, I very, very, very rarely shut my phone completely down.

Hello @Auntievic, thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums. We understand how frustrating this might seem.
Allow us to provide the steps!
To start, let's check your device settings. Check Settings > Notifications > Phone. Make sure that notifications are on and that the Badge App Icon is enabled. Also, make sure that you're using your voicemail on cellular data and not Wi-Fi.
Keep in mind: Your phone needs a wireless connection to receive calls, access voicemail, download Visual Voicemail messages, and get voicemail notification alerts. To check that your signal is strong enough for this:
If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. We'll be happy to help.
Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.

Thank you. And I want to be crystal clear to everyone that cellular connection is NOT an issue. And I have never turned on wi-fi calling. And everywhere in Settings where it’s an option I’ve specified that cellular data may be used. Obviously it is something else. What frustrates me is that I’ll be home, someone will call and leave a voicemail, which appears instantly, then a short time later, under the exact same circumstances, I’ll miss a call while I’m home, and a voicemail from that person appears THE NEXT DAY! This makes no sense to me.

You say you "very very very rarely" turn off your phone. In the old days it was suggested to do a complete power down for at least a minute once a day. Now about once a week is the suggestion. Electronic devices do need a break once in a while, plus this refreshes the connection.
