At&t phone, but visual voicemail says it's Verizon error

So I have a Galaxy s22 and when I go to the visual voicemail it gives me an error message and to call customer serivce at 800-922-0204.  My messages aren't syncing anymore with visual voicemail either.  The weird part is the customer service line is a Verizon line.  So how to I get this to work?  

FYI - I used to have Verizon about 3 years ago.

It's important that your messages are able to sync with visual voicemail, @tgduncan. Let's work together to figure out why this is happening as well as why you're being routed to other channels for support. 

 

Just so we're on the same page -- Is this a non-AT&T device? If so, we ask that you check the application you're using to ensure it's the Visual Voicemail app for AT&T. Once you've confirmed that you're using the correct application, we ask that you try the following steps to get past the error: 

  • Remove and reinstall the app. - This will restore the app's default settings.
  • Power cycle your device. - Common fix for most device/app errors.
  • Make sure you have 4G LTE data enabled. - This is needed for visual voicemail.

If this doesn't work, check out our troubleshoot & resolve tool for help with your visual voicemail. You'll need to sign in for more personalized troubleshooting steps.

Here is the solution that actually worked for me.

Go to Settings > Apps > Visual Voicemail.
 Click Force stop. (This was important!)


Then click on Storage.
 Do Clear cache and then Clear data.

Then go back to Home. Open Visual Voicemail. It will then go through its setup and ask for the permissions it needs.

Once I did all that, Visual Voicemail starting working again!

not working for me, I did all the steps and when I try to set up new password I get a pop up that states "system not working, come back later".  Why does it provide a verizon number to call for help with code 9999? and now I got notification that user is blocked from visual voicemail!  was on the phone for 3 hours with ATT and nobody can help - what a joke!!!
