Check in settings to make sure your phone is set to both send and receive regular SMS from your phone number

Hi there, Let's get you the help you need.

Let's look at a few troubleshooting steps you call follow:

1 - Check your cellular connection.

2 - Toggle Airplane Mode on and off. This refreshes your signal to your carrier.

3 - Hard restart your iPhone:

Press and hold the volume button and the side button until the power off slider appears.
Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off.

4 - Check for iOS updates. Updating your software irons out bugs and keeps you up to date.

5 - Reset your network settings. Note: Resetting network settings will erase all saved Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and connection settings, these connections will have to be added back after the process is completed.

6 - Update your carrier settings. Tap Settings > General > About. If an update is available, you'll see an option to update your carrier settings.

7 - Remove and re-insert the SIM or insert the SIM in a different mobile and see if it works. This will give you an idea if the sim is in working condition or not.

If none of these options work, and you are still facing this issue, you can visit at our AT&T Wireless support page on our website for a more personalized way to troubleshoot your device.

Let us know if this helps!

I have done all of the above multiple times. I have occasionally received a message from an android but rarely now.  One friend in particular said that as soon as she sent a text to me she received a message back saying the text was deleted by  my phone number.

Hey there! We understand the importance of receiving messages from android devices, so let's get you the information you need!

We understand you've taken numerous troubleshooting steps, so to understand the situation, please help us with some additional information:

  • Are you unable to receive texts from all android devices? This will help us narrow down the causes for this.
  • Are you, or the person on the other end, receiving any error messages? This will help us identify any outlying causes.

As for steps you can take, it can help to check for an updated version of your Message app:

  1. From the the home screen, select the App Store app then select the User account icon.
  2. App updates will be listed under AVAILABLE UPDATES or UPCOMING AUTOMATIC UPDATES. Select UPDATE next to the desired app to update an individual app. Select Update All to update all apps with an available update.

Additionally, you can also check out our Text Message Troubleshooting steps here.

I am getting intermittent texts from different friends android phones.  Sometimes they come through but mostly they don't as far as I can tell.  The only weird thing they get is a message that I deleted a text even though I never received it.  That happens as soon as they send the text.

Let's work together to figure out why you're unable to receive text messages, @llryan

Let us know what troubleshooting steps have you tried? We have a few we'd like to recommend:

  • Restart your device.
  • Turn Wi-Fi off. Make sure mobile (cellular) data is enabled and that you can browse the web. Then try again.
  • Be sure messaging is on.
    • iOS devices: Go to Settings, then Message, and turn iMessage off and back on.
    • Android devices: Go to Settings, then Advanced Messaging, and turn Advanced Messaging off and back on.
  • Check your device's memory storage. If it's full, messages may not come through.
  • Make sure your device is updated to the latest software.

I am having a very similar issue. I run an android (Samsung Galaxy S9) and suddenly a few weeks back my phone stopped sending text or receiving them from iPhone. Seems to be true for all iPhones regardless of the network they are on. I don't get any error messages nor do the iPhones. There's also no message stating that I have deleted any of their messages when they send to me. I have done all the suggested troubleshooting steps multiple times. I've spent hours trying to get this resolved but no solution has come so far. Please update if you find a method of reminding this issue. Thanks!
