Received a text form 410-200-500
Earlier I got a text from 410-200-500 saying
FRM:Dana Olson
MSG:Get allowance to advertise for our company. Reply with YES if interested
Not thinking about the consequences I replied and after realizing what I did I blocked the number and reported them to the FTC, I’m not sure what to do next?

Blocking that number won’t do any good. That text was an email sent to yournumber @ txt.att.net. That is just one of the numbers ATT uses for texts sent through the email to text gateway. You can forward the text to 7726 (SPAM). You will get a text response asking for the originating number, reply with the originating email address.

Why is AT&T allowing these texts through. they serve no purpose but to potentially scam one of AT&T's customers. AT&T should be more responsible than to let this go on.

@peter07001 Simply stated, ATT’s job is to provide the communication service, not decide what content can use that service. Once you start down that slippery slope of censorship, the 1st amendment goes out the window. Stopping spam is an issue for all providers but do you really want the provider deciding what messages get through and what doesn’t?

The slippery slope is stripping g the owner of the phone of their ability to block unwanted a potentially harmful text message from being received. Cite 1st amendment all you want - you obviously miss the point. In public I have a right to walk away. In public I can seek the privacy of my domicile. It the internet age I should have same digital right to exclude others from entering my home. What we have here is digital trespass and the first amendment has nothing to with the phone company allowing me to block any number i so choose - they just haven’t spent the money to give me that ability. 1st Amendment. Sheesh. Who are you, an AT&T lapdog?

I found the post looking for a solution to the (Edited per community guidelines)able text messages from 410 sources that AT&T has done nothing to stop. The idea of stopping those messages by forwarding them to SPAM is laughable since 10 million people already have and nothing is done.
My post, just like this post, is a valuable reminder that the phone companies have a fiduciary responsibility to the phone number owners to whom they cater. That's right, phone number owners. We are afforded certain rights when we obtain a phone number similar to rights afforded someone renting a room for the night.
I am tired of the phone company renting me a room and not providing a lock on the door.
I don't care if this thread is ten years old, the problem isn't resolved. Shame on AT&T and all the rest for not doing something to stop the proliferation of porn.
AND I AM NOT AN AT&T EMPLOYEE.

Hi all,
I have received a few myself from numbers begging with 410. Each time I get it, I report it:
Check out our AT&T Free Msg post for more information and be careful.
Big Shout Out To The ACES. Thanks for chiming in and helping!

Today, 5/25/2022, I and my spouse just received this message. I've reported it as spam on both phones. Our cell phone service provider SHOULD provide us with the option to "OPP OUT" of these type messages! But, since they are being paid by the sender, they won't protect us.
