Let's look into why you're unable to connect to AT&T Passpoint Secure, xChrisw.

We need a little more information about your experience:

  • Have you ever been able to successfully connect to AT&T Passpoint Secure in the past? For the optimal experience while connected to attwifi-Passpoint you will want to make sure auto-join and auto-login are enabled on your device.
    • If you see Auto Join disabled under Settings > Wi-Fi > attwifi, tap the More Info button and then tap Auto-Join.
  • Follow these instructions to turn on Wi-Fi and even connect to a Wi-Fi network. Public Wi-Fi for active AT&T SIM devices will auto-connect when Wi-Fi is turned on.
    • It can help to restart your phone by turning it off then on again. At AT&T Device Support, choose Troubleshooting followed by Reset Device to learn how to reset your device.

Also, if you’re prompted to sign in, use your primary AT&T user ID and password.

Reach back out to us and let us know how this goes so that we can provide assistance with your device connecting to AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots.

No I have never connected to it in the past, this was my first time.
I did try to log on with my att user name and password but it would just freeze. The log on buttons would become disabled after clicking once but the screen wouldn’t go away. Closing out of it would make the wifi log on fail as well.

Thank you for sharing this information with us, @xChrisw.

Since this is your first time trying to connect to Passpoint, check and see if your Boingo Passpoint profile is installed onto your device. If you're unsure if you have an active Boingo profile installed, go into your device's Settings > General > Profile > Desired profile

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the profile as well, then go through the troubleshooting steps Lar sent above, as the currently installed profile may be the cause of this error.

Please let us know how this goes.

I checked that but do not have a “Profile” option in my settings -> general. I am on iOS 16.3.1.

Thank you for the response, xChrisw.

Since you never installed the profile please try installing the Boingo Passpoint profile.

  1. Go to phone settings.
  2. Select Wi-Fi to open Wi-Fi settings.
  3. Tap Advanced or More.
  4. If you see the Passpoint or Hotspot 2.0 menu under Advanced setting, Select the Passpoint or Hotspot 2.0 checkbox to turn on.

Let us know how it goes. Thank yo for reaching out to AT&T Community Forums

Hello xChrisw, we're here to help you join AT&T Passpoint secure.

Let's meet in a Direct Message, so we can help you with join AT&T Passpoint secure. Please check your Direct Message inbox (it's the chat icon next to the bell icon in the upper right corner of the Forums).

In the meantime, try restarting your device and try signing in again. Wi-Fi hotspots have unique Service Set Identifiers (SSID) that that informs a laptop or mobile device which wireless network to connect to. AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots broadcast the SSID attwifi. The SSID may also be known as the Network Name or ESSID (Extended Service Set Identifier).

If you set your wireless device to use the attwifi SSID, it will detect and use AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots. If you have difficulty connecting to the AT&T Wi-Fi wireless service, you may need to specify your SSID as: attwifi (case-sensitive).

Looking forward to speaking with you.
