My number @ txt.att.net is not working.

Occasionally it works, sometimes messages get there 2 or 3 days later, but usually it just doesn't work. Worked great for the last 17 years but started failing about 2 months ago. Customer service could not help - any of the 5 hours I spent asking. This is making me consider another wireless carrier. Any help is appreciated!

Hey there @Debenedictis we certainly understand your frustrations and we'd be glad to assist you further with getting your wireless number working.

We'll need to confirm a few details, to better assist you:

  • Just to confirm, are you having trouble sending and/or receiving text messages(SMS or MMS) from your wireless device?
  • What's the make and model of your device, and your current AT&T plan?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps or resetting your device settings and network?

This information will help us narrow down to the greatest solution available for you, and successfully get this resolved for you.

Talk to you soon!

Text messages to my number @txt.att.net are not being received. The sending email gets a "

Delivery incomplete

There was a temporary problem delivering your message to my number@txt.att.net. Gmail will retry for 47 more hours. You'll be notified if the delivery fails permanently.

I have an iPhone X, unlimited AT&T data plan. My plan has not changed in the last 10 years.

The problem could be with gmail. Try sending a text to your @txt.att.net address from a different email account.

Thanks for your response @Debenedictis.

First, we want to try helping by performing a few troubleshooting steps to find a possible solution for you. Here's a few tips to use:

  • When sending, ensure you are using the correct email address format. Example: name@emaildomain.com
  • When receiving, check your SPAM and Trash folder as well as your inbox.

Try testing your email by sending your self a text message through the email option, and see if it's able to come through to you. If so, then this would be a concern on the other individuals end or with Gmail.

Be sure to let us know, thank you.

@ATTHelp You clearly don’t understand the OP’s issue. Do you even know about sending a text via email using an @txt.att.net address? It sure sounds like you don’t based on that last answer. The OP’s issue is not receiving email, it’s receiving a text sent through the email to text gateway.

Thank you, sandblaster! A text did immediately go through from my work email. I'll have to keep trying randomly because sometimes it works immediately from gmail. I just can't count on it anymore.

Were glad we were able to help @Debenedictis!

Since you were able to receive the text on your end when testing it out, then we'd confirm that this is being done on the other users end or Gmail and will need to be resolved through them directly, if the concern continues to persist.

Thanks for reaching out to the community and were here if you have any other questions!

No, this issue is not resolved. As I mentioned before, in rare cases the messages are received immediately no matter what email they are sent from. The problem is that the AT&T mail server is not delivering messages. Just because a few emails went through from another server does not prove the problem is with Gmail. And I'm pretty sure that if the problem was with Gmail, there would be a lot more people asking about that. I'm becoming so frustrated by this! I need some help NOW.

@Debenedictis Perhaps emails getting through from other email providers doesn’t prove the issue is gmail but it doesn’t rule it out either. We do see other complaints from gmail users, here is one just recently posted:

https://forums.att.com/conversations/data-messaging-features-internet-tethering/email-to-text-delayed-sms-gateway/6126b79c2f777e2313700f61

I tried to send myself self a text from my gmail account, so far nothing received but a text from my yahoo account was delivered right away. The evidence sure points to gmail from my perspective.

Very interesting! I will definitely do more research along this line. Thanks again, Sandblaster!
