How can I configure the APN for a SIM card in my car?
My old SIM card became defective and today I picked up a new SIM card at the AT&T store. Now the car is asking me to configure the APN for the card/car. AT&T sent me to my car dealer who showed me the manual where it says this can only be done by the service provider. Tech support also sent me to the car dealer. How can I solve this?

Hi there @Mrsfitz, we're here to help you get to the right place so you can configure the APN for car's service.
While you're able to change the APN settings for your mobile device on your phone, configuring the APN settings for Connected Car service is done differently. You'll need to reach out to our Connected Car support team at 866-595-1222, and they'll be able to help you get this sorted out.
Please let us know if you have any other questions, and thanks for reaching out to the AT&T Community Forums.
Dylan, AT&T Community Specialist.

I will try again but I have to tell you I was on the phone with the connected car support yesterday and all the rep did was read from a script and tell me to go back to the dealer over and over again.

I tried speaking to someone at this number again today. Once again, reading from a script and insisting that I needed to go to my car dealer. Wasted another 30 minutes with someone who had no idea what an APN was or how to configure it. I tried to get transferred to someone who could solve the problem but she continued to read from a script with no answers. After I hung up she called me back asking for a totally different person and then called back again to continue reading a script asking if the issue was resolved. it is not resolved and clearly no one at ATT knows how to do anything but read from preset scripts.

Hi Mrsfitz, we are here to help you configure your APN settings!
Please try programming your data settings to set up the access point name (APN) to get you going again. If this does not help, please visit our In-Car Wi-Fi support page and scroll down to 'What do you drive' to get personalized help.
Lastly, we'll need the make and model of your car, so we can point you in the direction to get personalized help.
Let us know if this helps! Thank you for reaching out to the AT&T Community Forums!

Did the people at the store where you were picking up the SIM card understand that this was for a connected car device not for a phone? And did they transfer your existing connected car plan to the new SIM card.

Yes the people at the AT&T store knew it was for a connected device and not a phone and they did transfer the new SIM card to my existing plan.

I went to the In-Car WI-FI support page where it referred me to a Harman Spark device. My old SIM card was attached to the Harman device in my car and the rep at the store mentioned the Harman device so they clearly saw it in my account. I'm not sure why the new card did not connect automatically or why no one at Tech support seems to know how this works.

I could be wrong because I don't work for AT&T but the SIM card should have been properly provisioned for the device it was being installed in before you left the AT&T store. If it were provisioned properly and service transferred for your connected car plan over to the new SIM card it should have been a plug and play. The fact that it was not makes me think that somebody at the AT&T store did not know what they were doing, or didn't do it properly.

Contact AT&T customer support and request assistance in configuring the APN settings for your new SIM card in your car, as it can only be done by the service provider.
