Email to text gateway is abused by spammers

Y'all got a service where I can using my email account send a text message to an AT&T customer. <cellnumber>@txt.att.net

This service is useful and cool but completely abused to send spam.

Trying to report these spam messages to 7726 doesn't work. 7726 asks you to enter the originating number but as they come from a mail address and if you give that address, I just get back a message asking for number again.

I tried to ask before for you to restrict this. Not close but let me put a whitelist of email addresses that can send to me so I can use it for IoT projects or other services.

True but just ignore the second message asking for a number. I can’t say for sure reporting an email address works but those I have reported, I’ve never gotten another text from that email. Reporting an email address seems to work, at least for me it has.

Is any carrier, including ATT, working on this? If I *forward* the originating message to 7726, why is there no follow up by ATT?
