Educational website being blocked by att-wifi

Hi, our website https://code.cs50.io is a free online IDE offered to students to access the programming environment and is mainly used with the course CS50. We noticed that learners could not access this platform when connected to ATT-WIFI, which negatively affected their learning experience on the AT&T's hotspot.

Is there a way or formal procedure to have our website allow-listed?

Thank you!

We understand the importance of students being able to access your website, @rongxinliu

Here are a few troubleshooting steps they can take to get pass this error:

We also recommend trying another browser or going incognito. This is a workaround for some browser concerns.

Is there a security app installed on the device? This can prevent websites from loading. This is because there is a vulnerability that was detected by the service indicating that the website has been rated harmful. To determine if this is the case, visit MX Lookup and follow the steps below:

  1. Enter the website.
  2. Wait for the results.
  3. Green checks are what you want to see.
  4. If you see red, contact your WebHost to help resolve the codes.

In addition, you can test the site using a Traceroute. If the traceroute goes past the AT&T Network and times out on another server, this is a sign that the website or webhost is an issue and confirms the information above.

If none of the above helps, please have the affected users reach out to us and we'll troubleshoot further. Thanks for visting our AT&T Community!

Hi Sydne,

Thanks for providing the troubleshooting instruction.

However, based on the URL displayed in this screenshot, I'm guessing AT&T probably miscategorized us as "shareware-and-freeware" instead of, e.g., "education"? Is there a formal procedure I can go through or an email/phone number I can contact to make an explicit request to get our website unblocked from AT&T?

Thank you for the update @rongxinliu.

For assistance with requesting an unblock request of the website, you'll need to send an email over to abuse_rbl@abuse-att.net. From there, our backend team will be able to review your request and help further with seeing what can be done regarding your website.

  • In some instances, if you have an antivirus software installed and added this site as an exception. (The firewall and security software can limit access to certain sites, if they consider them dangerous).

We hope this information is helpful. We're here if you have any questions. Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.

This is a real problem. The only way out for a student is to use software purchased by the college, but it should not be blocked.
