Block the 1-410-100 messages

I am getting text messages from 1-410-100 and I can't block them because the last digit of the number is different. They are from an att phone to an att phone  from att. From you. How can I stop this. I forwarded them to your spam number 7726. If I have to change phone numbers I will but it won't be thru att.

I will say, I did get ONE legitimate 410 text.  Just one - last year.  From CalFire, telling me to evacuate. And guess what?  It contained NO hyperlink.

> But legitimate SMS messages may also contain hyperlinks.  Sigh.

There are handful companies that use email-to-SMS feature. Because every IT professions knows: emails are unsafe and unsecure, so is communication over it. Just kids without experience will argue that it is best things in the world.

Don't generalize phone-to-phone SMS messaging into this bucket. Customers are paying for each message (even if it included in "unlimited" plans); emails are free.

There is no excuse for AT&T to support such functionality.

I imagine folks having this same type of discussion many years back about spam emails... Yes, they are still a problem but companies have created technology to help filter them out.

The problem is the mechanism the telco are using are flawed, if they have 7726 and the result is to block the emailer rather than look for spammy language like ".shop" domain then they are chasing a target which moves.

Every single 410100 and 410200 message which I have received has been blocked by wideprotect with a simple .shop/, .php filter.

If I have been able to stop 100% of the spam texts which I receive with a $3- app and the simple filter shown above, then why can't a company charging 10-20x that amount for service effectively do the same...

Folks, this is a situation which is only going to worsen... These offshore fraudsters continue to robocall, spoof, and send these scam texts. They are not going to stop and for companies to throw their hands up and accept this is ridiculous.

Where is the innovation ? A $3- app can do something that a billion dollar company cannot ?

I realize that catching all is likely impossible, but how about catching some ?

@TiredOfSpamAndLackOfInnovation please stop the advertising for the wideprotect app. You shall understand that not all phones can support that (e.g. older models), also there is a really steep barrier for people to use it. Some people are not that smart as you to configure block rules -- good for you  though. $3 is money every customer has to spend.

@async I will continue to promote what worked for me... I started this whole thing with the problem that I was trying to solve, and if what I learned can help one other person then I will beat that drum and try to share the info.

If anyone needs help configuring this app or any other feel free to reach out to me and I will try and help, which is a heck of a lot more than the telco seems to be doing to assist.

"please stop advertising... " yeah right, please stop sharing what worked ...

take a hike.

Yes, calling 611 worked for me. Article 446389 did the trick. No 1410100 message on any of my devices. I did not pay $3, and I did not spend any time configuring block rules for some app. I call it success.

Great, and I mentioned that above also that there are multiple ways to skin a cat...

Some people, me included, need email to sms... what works for one does not work for all, But between your article 446389 and the app that I tried, and I am sure many other apps, some people might get some relief.

Thanks for helping to keep getting the word out, I started this post, you came across it maybe due to a problem you were having, and others have come across it.

I'd love to see the telco take some action to control this problem. As I mentioned multiple times, this is only going to get worse.

@TiredOfSpamAndLackOfInnovation Its not really about the technology or lack of innovation. The real issue is censorship, you don’t want any carrier deciding at the carrier level what messages are delivered or not. If just one legitimate message gets blocked, now you’ve got liability issues. Spam email still gets delivered, just to a spam folder or it gets discarded on the receiving end by an email client. Text messages don’t have an equivalent and likely never will. The SMS and MMS protocols are ancient and unlikely to change. The most likely solution to this is smarter messaging apps such as what you use but that’s not the carrier’s domain.

Telco cannot take any action if the problem is not raised with them. If people just swallow irritation, and e.g. silently install some app, they will just not know. This forum is not the right place to recommend people to suppress their dissatisfaction and/or take this matter into their own hands IMHO

By calling the telco: 1) you indicate the problem exists, 2) they have to prioritize the resources to address it before it will get worse.

@sandblaster appreciate your thoughts, but isn't the larger problem call spoofing ? Wasn't stir / shaken supposed to help with that ? When ?

If anyone with a vici dial offshore can spoof any number and bother anyone in our Country then what is the solution ?

I find the spam text a minor annoyance, the larger problem is the ability of bad people to utilize the advancements in our technology against us all.

Would appreciate your thoughts on the spoofing of calls problem

thanks
