AT&T mobile hotspot stops working with my PS4 PRO
I have a new Galaxy S22+ with unlimited data plan. which allows me 40G of hotspot usage every month. I am able to connect my S22+ wifi hotspot to my PS4, I can download updates and content with no seeable issues. However while gaming, my download will just stop. I have a feature enabled on my PS4 that allows me to see my ping, download, upload, packet size and packet loss. Once in game, I can see my ping, D/L and U/L....all look fine, then for some reason my D/L will go from receiving normal data rates to 0.000. This problem happens around 75% of the time. When this happens, I have to switch over to Verizon wireless network, I have used other providers in the past with no issues ( T-mobile & Verizon ) However being as I am paying for AT&T service and the AT&T wireless speeds seem to be better, I would like to use this service as advertised. This happens while being tethered ( ethernet cable ) or wireless hotspot.

Hi Mig_mastrflash, let's get you in pointed in the right direction on how the mobile hotspot works for gaming.
Most mobile Hotspots do not have the ability to open the NAT due to software limitations.
Not to worry, we have a solution! The AT&T Nighthawk Hotspot Router does allow you to open the NAT. Check out the instructions below to access UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) settings.
Want to get one? Order the AT&T Nighthawk Hotspot Router today.
How to open UPnP
Note: At this time, the Nighthawk is the only Hotspot that allows NAT configuring. If you have another HotSpot, there are no settings or updates AT&T can perform to change this at it is a limitation with the HotSpot itself. AT&T is unable to swap out a HotSpot for the Nighthawk.
Let us know if this helps, and thank you for reaching out to the AT&T Community Forums.

Hi Mig_mastrflash, we want to help you stay connected to your PS4.
Try our troubleshooting tool to see if it can get you connected to continue your downloads.
Most mobile hotspots, and smartphones, do not support a UPnP routing option for PS4 Connectivity. You can upgrade a line to include the AT&T Nighthawk M6 or M6 Pro mobile hotspot router, which is UPnP friendly.
Please reach back out to us if we can further assist you in any way. Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.

So I was sold on the S22+ by AT&T wireless employees, as both of them are gamers and have had great success gaming. With no issues. Your solution to me, is for me to spend more money to upgrade to another AT&T product, and equipment? Even though I have no idea that will solve my problem? Thanks Lorie, AT&T Community Specialist, for digging deep into the issue for a solid solution. ( That was sarcasm btw ) As far as your comment " Most mobile hotspots, and smartphones, do not support a UPnP routing option for PS4 Connectivity" That is very interesting as I have used 2 different smartphones on 2 different providers and have NEVER had this issue. If your statement is true...that begs the question....Is it really a UPnP issue? And why is it intermittent? Let me know if you have additional thoughts on possible solutions. Thanks Mig

ATT uses a carrier grade NAT and that is the real problem.

Hi Glimmerman76,
The NAT type is the same regardless of provider. All 3 providers connect at a NAT type 2
to my PS4 PRO. Why would it be intermittent?

Hello Mig_mastrflash, we're here to answer your questions about Carrier Grade NAT (CGNAT).
While standard NAT translates a private IPv4 address to public IPv4 address, Carrier Grade NAT (CGNAT) adds an additional translation layer. Large-scale deployment of CGNAT to squeeze a little more life out of IPv4 creates particular problems for peer-to-peer applications, such as multi-user games and internet/video telephony. AT&T implements CGNAT on all types of Wireless (phone, hotspot, Wireless Home Internet, Fixed Wireless Internet).
Please reach back out if you have any further questions or concerns.
