Accessing voicemail

I can't believe how dysfunctional this has been for over 20 years. I can't access my voicemail by phone, and this antiquated online 'feature' is and has been for 20 years nearly unusable. This is WAY beyond absurd!

Accessing your voicemail is certainly important, 12Chris34, and we want to help find a solution for you.

In order for us to provide adequate support please reach back out to us and let us know the following:

  • Is your service wireline or wireless (cell phone)? These two services are handled separately and require different actions to reach a resolution.
  • What happens when you try accessing your voicemail? Any error messages that you receive can tell us a lot about what's happening and what's causing your experience.

Reach back out to us and let us know. The more details we have regarding your experience the closer we can get to reaching a definite resolution for you.

I was finally able to get back into this - on my computer. I can't play messages, delete them, or move them. Constantly get " We are currently experiencing technical difficulties, please try again later." I read that the AT&T visual voicemail app for wireless phones is a disaster also. And when I tried to download that - it says it's not compatible with my device - A brand new Samsung. Absolutely phenomenal!

We are here to assist you with your voicemail @12Chris34.

We know how important voicemails are and were here to assist you with correcting your voicemail concerns. Please ensure that your LTE cellular data is enabled as cellular data works best with visual voicemail. Let us know what type of device you are currently using to better assist you with personalized troubleshooting steps.

A data plan that includes VVM is required for all smartphone customers. Unlocked devices from other carriers may also not be able to use VVM. Learn more about the Visual Voicemail requirements and how to set up visual voicemail.

For additional assistance with your visual voicemail, check out our helpful troubleshoot & resolve tool to help fix your visual voicemail sharing concern. You'll need to navigate to Fix my wireless>Sign in to start.

Let us know if this helps! Thank you for reaching out to the AT&T Community Forums!

I am NOT on a wireless phone. I'm using a Windows 10 computer trying to access my voicemail on the archaic, dysfunctional AT&T web page.

We appreciate this clarification, @12Chris34.

Please let us know if you're trying to access voicemails for your home phone, or if this is for voicemails from your wireless device. As Lar mentioned above, both of these services access their voicemails differently:

  • Voicemail for home phones can be accessed by dialing *98 from your home phone, enter your mailbox PIN and press to listen. You can also access your voicemail by dialing your home phone number from any device and pressing *. Lastly, you're able to access them on your myAT&T account as you've mentioned doing.
  • Voicemail for wireless devices can be accessed by dialing 1 from your Samsung phone and entering your voicemaill password. You can also use the Visual Voicemail app to access your wireless voicemails, but you will need a compatible device and data plan to do so.

Please keep us updated about which service you're using, as wireless voicemails can't be accessed online and home phone voicemails can't be accessed with Visual Voicemail.
