Phone handset for EL52303

I have an EL52303 phone system and I need to purchase an extra handset. The EL50005 handset looks identical to the handsets included in my phone system, but apparently the correct handset I need to buy is the EL5003, according to the info here:

https://telephones.att.com/pd/2375/EL52303-3-handset-cordless-answering-system-with-caller-ID-call-waiting

However l can't find the EL50003 available except from second-hand and third-party sellers. Is it possible that the EL50005 would work with my system?

That model is EL50013 not EL50003. Also it costs $70 from a third party seller while the model EL50005 costs $20 direct from at&t, which is why I would prefer to buy that model if it's compatible with the phone system I own.

Hello @BlackEyedBeans, we'd be happy to help you with finding an identical headset for your EL-52303 phone system.

We would advise for you to purchase the recommended headset for your device, as mentioned on the website you've provided. If you're unable to purchase the required headset, we'd suggest for you to try the EL50005 version to see if it's compatible. If not, then you may be able to return the purchase for refund.

Give it a try and let us know if it worked for you. Feel free to reach back out with any other questions or concerns.

Well, I ordered the EL50005 handset to try it out, since it sells brand-new at Walmart for $14.99. According the manual, in order to register the handset to the base system, you just insert the battery and the handset screen will flash "To register HS..." and "...see manual" alternately. Then you just place the handset on the base cradle, the display on the handset will change to "Registering...", and after a moment it will change to "Registered". I tried this, and after the "Registering" message, I got a message that said "Failed". The manual says in case of failure, repeat the steps. I got "Failed" multiple times. There were no further instructions on what do do in the case of repeated failure, so I took this to mean that the EL50005 simply would not work with my system.

I ordered an old-stock, still-in-box EL50003 from eBay and received it today and tried to set it up. As soon as I inserted the battery into the handset, the display showed the message "Out of range OR No pwr at base". The base and its existing handset had been working fine with no problem. There troubleshooting instructions in the manual said to unplug the power cord on the base, remove the battery from handset, wait a few minutes, then replace the power cord and battery. I did this and still got the same message. I left the new handset on the base for several hours and it's still showing the same message. There are no further instructions in the manual on what to do at this point. Is this handset defective?

The handset is most likely still register to an old base. To force a deregister of a handset so you can register it to a different base Follow one of these methods that have been proven to work by members of this board many times.
