unknown att account collection agency

I got a bill from a legitimate collection agency looking for almost $200 I supposedly owed from an AT&T Wireline account from a year ago. I haven't had an AT&T account. It could be fraud or something this agency is trying to pull off. There's no record of any AT&T account with me, the source I use to warn me of my information being used doesn't have anything about an AT&T account and I'm sure if it was legit AT&T would have been contacting me for a year to collect before going to an agency. Is there some way I can confirm that the account number they sent is or is not an AT&T account?

If your identity was used to establish AT&T service or account changes were made without your knowledge, you'll need to contact our Global Fraud Management team:

  • For wireless accounts, call 877.844.5584.
  • For digital phone, internet, or U-verse TV accounts, call 888.471.4576.
