IWFA-40 new customer and service

I recently signed up for ATT service to evaluate the coverage to/from and at my rural property.  Ultimately I am hoping I will be able to use the IWFA-40 to provide both basic data and phone service since the property is located in a rural fringe signal area.  I originally talked with a rep that indicated I could add the IWFA-40 to my plan for $20.  However, when I later chatted with a different rep to activate they indicated my only option was a 50gb/$60 plan for the IWFA-40.  I only need it for phone service and light data usage (iOt and monitoring) at the property.  I'm hoping someone can confirm plan and service options and any available discounts that might apply.

Happy New Year!

If you're in a fringe area it most likely won't work well anyway, you need a good strong signal for them to work reliably. As far as plans this is a customer-based forum so we wouldn't have any plan information that's not online.

Thanks for the reply.  Is there anything unique to the IWFA-40 that would be different from other hotspot plans indicted online?  Just hoping for basic indoor phone service paired with limited data and getting different answers.

Just the added phone service. There are others you can look at. Do you know if another carrier would give you a better signal? You could get just a hotspot but AT&T no longer sells wireless home phone only, others do.

We'd be more than happy to help explore plan options for mobile hotspot, comptech5218.

Special thanks to our ACE, spoom2, for their quick response.

Our first recommendation would be to view our PREPAID page for mobile hotspot. With PREPAID, you do have an option of getting 20 GB of data for $25 a month, since you're only doing lite data usage.

Our second recommendation would be to set up your mobile hotspot

Check your current plan

  1. Do one of the following:
    • From att.com/myatt, select View my plan.
    • From att.com/prepaid, select Plans.
  2. Choose See plan details or Plan details.
  3. Look for Mobile hotspot:
    • Is it there? Great! You're good to go.
    • Don’t see it? Your current plan doesn’t support hotspots. Close Plan details and look for plans that do. Have AT&T PREPAID? Go to Add-Ons to check.

Our third recommendation would be review data only plans

Want a data-only plan for a wireless device? Choose one of these plans:
  • AT&T DataConnect: Choose a monthly plan with 25GB or 40GB of data for select devices and mobile hotspots. Shop now for one of these devices.
  • You’ll enjoy access to our fast, reliable, and secure nationwide 5G network at no additional charge.
  • Traveling outside the U.S.? You can add an international data plan.

Also have an option to add 50GB of mobile hotspot data, if you have a premium wireless plan. You can use this resource to view our wireless plans.

Please let us know how this helps and we can continue offering more support. Thanks for reaching out to AT&T Community Forums!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!  This really helps.

It appears I have 3gb of hotspot data included on my current line/plan.  In order to check if the IFWA40 (or any other solution) is going to work at my rural location can I use the sim from my phone and place it in the device for testing?

I'm pretty sure you have to activate it with the SIM that came with it.

Let us give you the road map to setting up your IFWA-40 hotspot device, comptech5218.

That's a great question. As previously mentioned by our ACE, spoom2, you would just use the SIM that comes with the wireless hotspot device, once you purchase it.

We recommend viewing our device support resource for setting up your IFWA-40 device

Before setting up your device, make sure you have completed the online activation process. Please see Activate phone, SIM card, or other device for more information.

1. TURN ON: From the back of the device, press the ON/OFF button.

2. CONNECT TO AT&T WIRELESS INTERNET: Connect your computer to the Wi-Fi network listed under Network Name on the bottom of the device.

3. Enter the password listed under Wi-Fi Password on the back of the device.

4. To manage your device after setup, go to http://attwirelessinternet. Enter the Login listed on the bottom of the device, then select LOGIN.

5. CONNECT PHONE: From the back of the device insert the phone cable into either of the PHONE ports.

Please let us know if you need further assistance, and we will kindly reach back out. Thanks again for contacting AT&T Community Forums!
