How to re-activate an old Ameritech landline which is currently disconnected?

Hello...I would like to find a way to re-activate my family's old Ameritech landline from central Illinois.  It is currently considered "disconnected" when you try and call it. Can anyone assist?

You need to call or order service online as a new customer. As noted, you likely can’t get your old number back. There is no process for requesting a specific number for a residential account. You might be able to request a specific number if you open a business account.

@Constructive You turned out to be wrong. I was in fact able to get my family's super old number back. It had been inactive since roughly 2007.  I simply had to setup and order an old school POTS landline and have it setup for one of my properties in the same area code.  I was told I could not do this in an area where U-Verse was available.  Fortunately, I have a family member in the same area code as the old family number which was located in a zone where U-Verse was not available.

@sandblaster During the new order process, I asked if my family's old number was available (which I knew that it was). The AT&T sale rep confirmed that it was in fact available and issued me the number.  It was activated 2 days later.  It was that simple.

All I can say is your one in a million others have been told it can't be done, period. They may not have had somewhere they could place an order for another landline as you did though.
