AT&T Just Won’t Cancel My Service
Called over four days in one week and spoke to 8 reps. Even got a cancellation number. Today I got a bill for a landline I’ve tried to cancel since last Saturday 4/2. Phone line still active (rings) and from online account still getting billed through May 1st.
I want to cancel my landline and ensure that my internet will not be affected. Please this has been so frustrating and stressful.
What can I do to cancel my landline?

Your final month of service is not prorated. Once you start a billing month, you are billed for the entire month. If your bill is through 5/1, that means your new month started 4/2. You needed to cancel before 4/2 to avoid another bill. It sounds to me like your service is cancelled and that’s your final bill.

My issue is ATT not cancelling my home phone line after multiple requests. I’ve received two confirmation numbers for cancellation. Latest is from 4/9. However my phone line is still active as of 4/12. It went from Home Phone Residential Flat Rate service to Wireline Service and now it is listed as a Business Phone with a Residential Flat Rate Service. How is that cancelled if the type of service is just being updated left and right instead of being actually cancelled?

Post your billing dates. From what date, to what date? You didn't answer whether or not you'd read and understood @sandblaster 's post. Once we know your billing date we can give a better answer.

Billing date on bill is 4/2 - 5/1.
All agents I spoke with said it will be prorated. From remarks here and googling answers, ATT does not prorate. Okay. But what is to say they won’t pull this again come 5/2? Cause none of the agents I spoke with said it won’t be prorated and if there is a cancellation on file, why didn’t the last agent see the disconnect order confirmation? And why is the type of phone service being updated in my accout?
So I will have dial tone and ignore the updated plan in my account?
How does that make sense? So they “cancelled” my home phone and gave me a business phone instead? Cause that’s what is listed in my account. I have a business line now.

Actually, in many--if not most-- areas, POTS service will be prorated. Why your line is still active and/or shows as a business account sounds like a mistake was made.
You should probably call back.

That is if they are reachable.
Called today at 7:11am. After going through the phone tree and informing them it’s canceling services, I was given the automated message that I should call back during business hours. The business hours online is listed as M-Saturday 7am-9pm local time. They should be open but I was dropped instead. 1-800-288-2020.

According to two posters in this topic to cancel traditional landline call 1-877-677-3312 which supposedly gets you to the loyalty group who can cancel POTS service. I have no way to verify this.
