That is exactly the problem that started on 8/23. We have been on phone to AT&T for several hours in last two days. They try to help but all suggestions keep failing. I followed AT&T instructions about creating a secure key and changing my password. I too can access my email via Firefox. But Thunderbird logons fail when sending emails. My security settings are SSL/TLS and OAuth2 as directed after my first phone call.

ATT made me change my password on the web yesterday and now Thunderbird no longer connects. I get wrong password no matter what.
I did the tutorial changes but I can't seem to get the Yahoo dialogue. the web client for Currently works but not Thunderbird
