close an e-mail account with a subaccount

I have an old e-mail ATT (sbcglobal) account which I no longer use. It's been years.  People I know keep sending to it by accident, and I would like to close it, but it has a subaccount for my husband which is still active.  Is there any way to close this account without closing his, or at least put a "I am no longer using this account" message on it so people know I'm not checking it any more?

We want to help clear some things up about your email, @Carnelia

When a subaccount is created, it is managed by a parent account. It will always be a subaccount and cannot be moved to a primary account. If you'd like to keep it, you'll need to keep the primary account active.

You can set up an auto reply for your primary account to notify senders that you no longer check that email by following these steps:

  • Sign in to your webmail
  • Click on the gear/settings icon
  • Select Mail Options
  • Select Vacation Response
  • Follow the prompts to complete set up

Please let us know if you have any other questions. We'll be happy to share the answers you need!
