ATT.net new Outlook install error 554 Email Rejected
Purchased new computer, email worked with old Windows 10 computer and Microsoft 365. New computer Windows 11 pre-installed and migrated apps. Microsoft 365 installed. Outlook errors trying to set up and retrieve email. from att.net. Latest Outlook error.
Send test email message: Cannot send the message. Verify the email address in your account properties. The server responded: 554 Email rejected
Have verified email address is correct. Have verified Security Key for login. Have called IP about connection and ok. Have tried both wireless and wired. Can access email with browser, iPad and iPhone. Cannot get past Test Account Settings to set up Outlook connection to att.net. Using att.net recommended POP settings and Ports.

When did you create the Secure Mail Key? We've seen numerous instances where the key suddenly just stops being accepted. Deleting the key and creating a new one fixes the issue.
Set up Outlook manually, don't let it try and find the correct settings. And don't use the Test Message. I've chased down Outlook connection issues for hours until I realized that real email got sent, but not the ones from the Test button.
Use these alternate servers instead of the att.com servers.
POP3
pop.mail.yahoo.com (use Port 995 and SSL/TLS)
smtp.mail.yahoo.com (use Port 465 and SSL/TLS)

Hi there, Dar22. We understand that you are having a problem with setting up your Outlook with your AT&T email address, but you are getting an error 554 email rejected. Let's look at this together.
According to the error number, it looks like something in the way that set-up is configured, that the sending of the test email is being rejected. So let's look at the email client set-up. Follow these steps:
The reason why we are going this route is, that you have stated that you are using the POP3 settings. Try the IMAP settings to see if that works better.

Under the More Settings I failed to go to the Outgoing Server Tab.
I went to the tab did the fol
Select More Settings.
Complete Outgoing Server info.
Check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.
Select Log on using
User Name:
Password: Add Secure Key Password
Select Remember Password
Select Require Secure Password Authentication
Skipped Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
I skipped since I was able to read a different post on a Microsoft site and keyed in on the Outgoing Server Tab.
Does it Make any difference? I am happy I got it set up.

Thanks for coming back, DAR22.
Yes, that makes a difference. The reason why is, that it has to authenticate back to the att.net email server to send the message.
For example, in the webmail when you send a message it goes through the authentication process automatically, but when you use a client such as Outlook, Outlook has to ask the email server to authenticate.
Are you able to send the test message with no errors? Please let us know.
