Yahoo webmail page keeps going "offline"

Yahoo's servers keep going "offline" repeatedly while the webmail page is open - it doesn't matter what browser or which PC, or which email is logged in (mine, my husband's, or my son's). The error usually says "Secure connection failed" if I try to refresh the page, or "Secure connection reset". If the page is already loaded and the "No internet" red error box appears, I can tell it's NOT my internet because universally other pages load just fine. It's just... Yahoo. And something about mail.yahoo.com that is screwed up. This happens every day, several times a day, and usually when I don't have the time to wait for it to resolve so I can check my email, aka at the worst possible times. I know we're stuck with Yahoo's interface for webmail. What can be done to prevent their site from stopping completely when trying to access email? The problem is only getting worse. And it's not the PC - this one is brand new as of May and all the software is up to date.

Hey @satscout, we understand that you're having trouble with webmail page going offline for you. We're here to help.

  • Have you tried rebooting your gateway?
  • If rebooting the gateway doesn't resolve the problem we suggest that you try reaching out to Yahoo support for help regarding the webpage.

Please let us know what happens.

It isn't the gateway. And reaching out to Yahoo is useless.

Yahoo has never responded in any helpful way. They always deflect back and say "it's AT&T's fault you can't access your webmail". This has been going on for a very long time; it's just getting worse with time. According to Yahoo, it's AT&T's responsibility to make the interface available.

In my not so humble opinion it's Yahoo's responsibility to keep their servers up in such a way that we can access sites with a yahoo.com suffix on them, including mail.yahoo.com. But not according to them.

The hope was that in reaching out, SOMEBODY from AT&T who has more authority than an end user can tell them "hey, OUR customers are being affected by YOUR site problems so gosh darn it FIX IT ALREADY" but looks like it's not going to work.

Hey @satscout.

What we can do here is make a report about this to have it addressed.

  • So are you having trouble accessing your emails?
  • If so, try to see if your able to login at currently.com

Please let us know if your having trouble accessing emails.

Logging in at Currently doesn't solve the email accessibility issue.

I can log in and remain logged in. But the webmail page itself flickers in and out of accessibility.

Say I'm reading my emails. I delete an email and the next one doesn't pop up. I back out of the email and try to click on an email. The clicked email shows the message "You are offline." Then there's a message saying "can't delete the email" (the one I tried to delete a step ago). I try to refresh the page; either it waits and waits and ultimately does nothing or eventually maybe shows that the "connection (was) reset". Or I go to pull up my husband's webmail in a different browser, and his won't load at all, and when I go back to my own page, I find it's not responding. Refresh and wait, refresh and wait. After wasting several minutes this way, it finally lets me into mine; I return to the other browser and it (temporarily) lets me pull up my husband's email. He peeks over my shoulder long enough to see that there is no email from his community group, and by that time, I've lost responsiveness to my webmail page again. It flickers worse than a California brownout during wildfire season. And there is no internet equivalent to a generator. We're entirely at the mercy of Yahoo's servers' ability to respond without "resetting the connection" when presented with authentic login credentials.

Yahoo needs to get its act together, but it won't unless there is corporate pressure involved. They have no motivation to actually serve customers because we have no power to affect their business.

By the way... the scenario described above happened today, in the time between when I posted last and when I got notification that you replied.

Hi, @satscout.

Is this the only device that you are having this email issue with?

Have you tried any other devices?

Have you cleared your cache and cookies on your browser?

We recommend that you clear your cache and cookies because this will get rid of anything that is affecting the webpage to function properly.

Let us know more information, so we can better assist you.

Cleared cached and cookies - repeatedly, on multiple browsers.

The same issue happens on my son's computer, in the other room, when he accesses HIS AT&Twebmail. It also happens on my tablet if I use a browser instead of a client. The issue is seen almost universally across devices in spite of maintenance, and only on Yahoo's webmail page.

Oddly enough, when my son accesses his college email - NOT hosted by Yahoo, on a separate platform on his college's servers - he has zero trouble, even when the Yahoo pages aren't working. Go figure... /sarc

Oh, and by "multiple browsers" I mean my baseline Firefox (which I leave open with my own webmail), Edge (on which I pull up my husband's email), and Chrome (aka "Guaranteed Crash", which I use as a last resort and won't work when the other's don't either).

ok, "when the other's don't" was unclear... should have said "when the other's webmail pages don't"

Hi, @satscout..

Here is more information on how to troubleshoot your email.

We recommend that you reset your password, as this may be syncing issue. The password reset may resync everything on our end.

Let us know if this helps.

I've already reset the password TWICE and don't want to have to do it yet again. You have no idea how much of a nightmare it is to try to get Blue Mail resynched after a password change.
