Reset password without security questions

My wife used her att.net email every day for a number of years on a home computer and on her phone.  Nothing changed, not our home computer or her phone.  For some unknown reason her att.net email stopped working several months ago on our home computer and we were unable to fix it.  However, her email continued to work fine on her iPhone until last week.  We have tried resetting the password but we are doing something wrong on the answers to the security questions so we are unable to reset the password that way.  Most of the information I have found says that there should be an option to reset your password by requesting a temporary password but there is no option on her password reset screen to request a temporary password.  She really needs this email to work because it is tied to a lot of different things.  This experience has been so frustrating that if we do ever get the email to work I am going to try to talk her into changing everything to a non-AT&T email address.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get her email working again?  We are an AT&T customer for cell phones .  .  .  5 of them.

Thanks for providing that information regarding your email, @johnml.

To clarify, is the att.net email that you're trying to sign into currently linked/registered with the wireless account that you have, or is it linked to a different cancelled/disconnected at&t account?

If it's linked to your current account, then you can easily change your att.net email password by simply changing your att.com password and waiting 24 hours for your information to resync. You can do this by following these steps:

  1. Go to att.com/myatt.
  2. Select Forgot password?
  3. Fill out the password info.
  4. Choose security questions or temporary password and follow the prompts. If you choose a temporary password, we’ll let you know where we sent it if the option is available (you can also add a number to use for receiving temporary passwords if you have access to your att.com account).
  5. Create your new password.

If you do not remember the answers to the questions you set up, then for security reasons, and to protect customer information, we are unable to reset passwords at this time if you cannot remember your security questions.

For more information, you can always read about the steps needed to be taken to reset email passwords at your convenience.

Let us know if you have any other questions or concerns, and we'll be happy to help.

We are here to help you get back into your email, johnml.

Here is more information on how to troubleshoot your email.

This will tell you how to reset your password if you do not remember your security questions.

If this is tied to an account you should be able to go to the MyAT&T page and reset your password. There will be an option to reset with a temporary password.

Let us know if this helps.

When I try this I do not have the option of requesting a temporary password.  The only option is to use security questions and we apparently are not answering those questions exactly like we set them up.

Good luck on this one @johnml. I have been raising this issue for several months now but obviously this forum is the wrong place to try to resolve our issues. I'm thinking GMAIL is the only solution to this problem.

I am also having the same problem. I don't even get the option to answer security questions in order to reset my password. It just asks me to enter my last name and/or billing zip code. When I enter the information, nothing happens except my account remaining locked. As much as I hate to do it, especially since I've had these email addresses for years, I may be switching to a different email provider like Gmail.

I guess I'm glad to hear I am not the only one with this problem.  I would rather have the problem with my email than my wife's so that only one of us would be frustrated.  I use Yahoo email and have had no problems.  As mentioned in my original post, we use AT&T for our cell service and we are generally happy with it.  The handful of times I have been able to speak with a live customer service rep, they have been very helpful.  However, the company seems to be too big to consistently have good customer service.  The biggest problem is often trying to figure out who to contact for help.  By the way, my wife's email magically started working on her phone again but still cannot login to the email any other way.

AT&T you (Edited per community guidelines) balls!  For several months now, I have been having to reset my email password simply because your dumb (Edited per community guidelines)es can't recognize my login credentials from either a different physical location, a different device, or a combination of the above. I logged in from my laptop at home earlier today. Then when I visited my in-laws and tried logging in using the SAME laptop, SAME browser, accessing from their Wi-Fi network, suddenly I get locked out because I apparently tried logging in too many times! THIS IS (Edited per community guidelines)!!!! It's happening repeatedly and it's causing real issues, particularly when I need information on the fly. I don't need to answer security questions because that approach DOES NOT WORK. I have NOT forgotten my password. YOUR systems are simply BLOCKING ME OUT of my account!  Why can't your Yahoo or AT&T servers recognize my credentials from different locations or IP addresses????????  I'm writing this more as a public service to other customers having the same issues. For me, I'm terminating my email relationship with Bellsouth/AT&T as soon as I find an alternative long term solution!

I have had my att.net email account for over 15 years. Last year out of nowhere I was unable to log into any desktop or laptop. It kept telling me incorrect password. But of course I was logged in on my iPhone with no issue. I have tried to reset the password, but unfortunately I guess I do not know my very first car or my very first job lol so it keeps telling me that the answers I’m putting in or incorrect. I do not have a recovery email set up so I decided to call AT&T this past Monday. I explained everything to the representative. I guess he didn’t listen nor maybe didn’t understand me. He decided to reset my password and told me to go in the email and get the temporary pass code that was sent to my att.net email. I left because now it logged me out of my iPhone. He told me to fill out this long form and that someone from AT&T would contact me within 72 hours. We are now on day six with no call back! This is very frustrating as I need to get into the email. I have so many of my accounts linked to that email.

I don’t understand why this cannot be fixed as at this point them resetting my password is their fault. And the accounts I have linked to that email. The only way I’m able to change or add an email is they are sending me temporary codes to that email that I cannot get into.

If anybody has any help please let me know. I’d greatly appreciate it.
