Mail login problems

For days I have only intermittently been able to access email on one Mac computer, and not at all on the MacBook Pro or iPhone. I keep getting "authentication failed" messages even if I reset the password.

We know how important it is to have access to your email account, and we'd be happy to help you @annbivalent

To get started, are you using an email client to sign in to your email account or are you trying to log into your email account through Currently

If you're using an email client, then we may need for you to set up OAuth or a Secure Mail key in order for you to log into your email account.

We look forward to hearing from you.

I want to use Mac Mail rather than Safari. It's still not working on the MacBook.

Hi there, annbivalent. We understand how important it is to access your email. Let's get you the help that you need.

We have third-party email troubleshooting steps that you can follow that may help with getting you logged back in to your email:

  • Test using webmail - If you are able to sign in to your email via the web, the issue points to the app or mailbox you are using.

  • Mailboxes - we recommend using the latest version. Updates and changes may prevent it from working properly.

  • Rebuild Mailbox profile - In some instances, rebuilding the profile fixes some issues. You may lose email doing this

  • Change your settings from POP to IMAP

  • Client issues - If you are using POP, you must now use IMAP. There was a recent change, this article will explain further

  • Multiple Email, One Client - Please note, each email requires either a secure key or OAuth to be set up.  Check out Microsoft's support page on how to set up multiple emails
  • Reset your secure key - this has helped resolve issues in the past, especially when signing into another client or troubleshooting your current one.

Please let us know if you have tried these steps, and if it helped.

See bold replies below.

  • Test using webmail - If you are able to sign in to your email via the web, the issue points to the app or mailbox you are using. Yes, I am.

  • Mailboxes - we recommend using the latest version. Updates and changes may prevent it from working properly. Latest version of what, the Apple operating system? My computers are old.

  • Rebuild Mailbox profile - In some instances, rebuilding the profile fixes some issues. You may lose email doing this. The Rebuild command is gray.

  • Change your settings from POP to IMAP They are IMAP and/or STMP (not sure where to find right now)

  • Client issues - If you are using POP, you must now use IMAP. There was a recent change, this article will explain further

  • Multiple Email, One Client - Please note, each email requires either a secure key or OAuth to be set up.  Check out Microsoft's support page on how to set up multiple emails. I'm not using Microsoft for mail
  • Reset your secure key - this has helped resolve issues in the past, especially when signing into another client or troubleshooting your current one. My understanding was I didn't need a secure key

I just managed to log in on Mac Mail, two messages downloaded, then it went offline again, then came back after a few minutes and loaded the rest of my messages. And I got two "New sign in on Mac OS" messages. This is crazy. Meanwhile, I'm still not getting access to my emails on my MacBook or iPhone. "Authentication Failed. . . please try again later." I have tried many times, including resetting the password.

There's a chance, I suppose, that this has something to do with having two linked AT&T email accounts. As I wrote elsewhere, I'm reluctant to delete one because I don't want to lose its messages. Can you reassure me about that, and explain why two linked accounts would be causing a problem?

Hi @annbivalent, We are happy to find the best solution for the issue you are experiencing with linked email accounts. We will have to get this escalated to an email specialist.

Please find me another agent who is available today. Rosey contacted me just as her work schedule for the week ended.
