Error signing in to email

Since last night I am receiving this error while trying to sign in to my email via my desktop and laptop. Still getting email on my phone. I tried many times last night - turned off my computer and went to bed. Now in the morning - same thing. I have cleaned up cookies and history. Still happening - I keep trying over and over. I have a meeting in an hour and the link is in an email from 2 days ago - on this computer. I have to get to it.

OK - got the security key and that fixed the Outlook problem. I prefer to use that for email anyway. Guess I will just use the other browser when I have to use webmail (when I travel) until we can figure out why it's not working on Brave.

Thanks for all your help.

Thank you - I was able to sign on using Waterfox browser, but cannot using my Brave browser. I submitted a broken website notice to Brave. Not sure if there is anything else I can do on my end.

We'll gladly help you sign in to your email on your desktop, @NV_Wilderness.

The best place to start is by troubleshooting your webmail client. Just follow the steps below from our email troubleshooting guide:

  • Try clearing your cache and cookies once more. - the most common fix. If that doesnt work, try the steps below

  • Update your browser - many features are only compatible with the latest browser and we recommend updating it.

  • Test signing in to your webmail using another browser (Edge, Firefox, Safari).

  • Disable browser tools or add-ons - this varies by device and browser.

  • Rebuild your mailbox profile - in some instances, rebuilding the profile fixes some issues. You may lose email doing this.

Let us know if this helped, or if you need further assistance!

Thanks for getting back to us, NV_Wilderness.

Try these additional troubleshooting options to see if you can sign in on other browsers:

  • Flush your computer's DNS cache. Sometimes, for various reasons, the DNS cache becomes corrupt or out of date. The most common result is that you can’t get to some web sites in your browser, or the websites don't properly load.
  • Disable IPv6. This can help improve the website's loading time.
  • Use an incognito browser. This is a workaround for some issues.
  • Restart your gateway and computer. Typically a reboot of devices such as your gateway and the device having the issue should correct it.

Let us know if this helped.

Whew - thanks - however I'm afraid all that is above my knowledge. Don't know what the DNS cache is or where to find it. What is IPv6 and where to find it. Gateway? I can decipher incognito browser but not sure which one that would be. I use Brave - is that one?

Perhaps I need to take this thing to a computer repair???

Hey @NV_Wilderness. We'd be happy to help with getting your Outlook email client connected on your computer.

Alot of the steps provided before are found within your gateway settings. Gateway is another name for your router.

To get started, we'd recommend checking out our information on how to set up Outlook on your computer. You'll need to choose which version of Outlook that you have and follow the steps to make sure it's properly set up, and the settings are correct. These steps are for Microsoft Outlook 2016:

  1. Open Outlook, select File, then Add Account.
  2. Choose Manual setup or additional server types.
  3. Select POP or IMAP.
  4. Fill in your user details.
    • Enter your name as you want it to display to others.
    • Enter your full AT&T mail address.
  5. Enter the server information.
    • Account Type - Select IMAP or POP3.
    • Incoming mail server - Enter http://sm.att.com/d8d51507 (IMAP) or http://sm.att.com/4a6298a8 (POP3).
    • Outgoing mail server - Enter http://sm.att.com/e06ff256 (IMAP) or http://sm.att.com/d3f66654 (POP3).
  6. Fill out the logon information:
    • User Name - Enter your full email address.
    • Password - Enter or paste your secure mail key.
    • Check Remember password and Require logon using Secure Password Authentication.
  7. Select More Settings.
  8. Complete Outgoing Server info.
    • Check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.
    • Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
  9. Complete Advanced info.
    • Incoming server - Enter 993 (IMAP) or 995 (POP3).
    • Use the following type of encrypted connection - Choose SSL.
    • Outgoing server - Enter 465 (IMAP and POP3).
    • Use the following type of encrypted connection - Choose SSL.
  10. Select OK and then Next. Outlook will test your account info. If everything passes, select Finish.

Let us know if this helps.

I already have an Outlook account on this computer so it is not allowing me to do the first step - "add account" Says me email already exists and won't let me go further.

I use MS365 including Outlook version 2306.

I have tried multiple times to make sure the settings are correct. Steps 8 & 9 above is all correct - except there is no where to choose SSL - SSL is not listed anywhere I can find.

As I stated - it was working until mid-morning May 16, 2022 and then quit right after web-mail on Yahoo required me to change my password. The password change worked on my phone for Outlook for Android and for webmail - but not Outlook on my desktop. It has not worked since and I just haven't had the time to devote going down this rabbit hole.

I just noticed step 6 - what is a secure mail key?

You can learn about the Secure Mail Key on our website, NV_Wilderness.

For further assistance with setting up your Outlook email, you'll want to contact Microsoft, as we don't provide official support for 3rd party mail clients.
