Email timing out hourly for 2 weeks

This is a follow-up post to a previously reported problem which persists for 2 weeks.  Webmail through Currently times out (loses connection to mail server) hourly, requiring me to log in again every hour to send or receive email and to view saved messages.  As instructed via Direct Messaging, I sent an email to the ATT Engineers with screenshots of what I was experiencing on Friday, June 10, referencing ticket #Y4148.  As of June 16, 5 p.m. ET, there has been no response or resolution.

@ATTHelp, I would appreciate an update on the progress in resolving my issue.  Other users on this forum who had this problem beginning as early as June 1 have reported the issue has resolved for them with no action required on their part other than to report it on this forum. ATT has apparently acknowledged the problem is on their end or with the Yahoo server.  When can we expect a resolution for all users?  If it matters, I use a Bellsouth email address and Google Chrome browser (although also experienced the same problem with Microsoft Edge).

ATTHelp has no idea so don't hold your breath waiting for an answer other than "we're aware and our engineers are working on a fix with no ETA".

In reality, they are not in communication with anyone who is working on this because all of that happens at Yahoo.

@tonydi If the problem is with Yahoo, why doesn't the same problem occur with my other email address using a Yahoo domain name that is happening with the Bellsouth domain name hosted by Yahoo?  I'm not an IT person, so I'm sure there's a logical explanation, but just curious if Yahoo processes its own free email service users the same as other email service users (e.g., Bellsouth, sbcglobal, etc.).

Oh, it is happening with yahoo.com accounts as well.  As for logical explanations, I have absolutely none.  I don't have this problem with my sbcglobal account and I don't have any of these other issues currently plaguing AT&T accounts.

  • Log in failure for too many login attempts
  • Emails displaying raw data including headers, not the actual HTML content
  • Large amounts of Spam going to Inbox
  • Bulk Email folders being created on IMAP clients that don't appear the same way online
  • Official email servers rejecting logins, requiring use of old Yahoo server names
  • Accounts being logged out without user input, sometimes in the middle of email composition
  • Users eventually being told that they can not ever get access to their accounts again because the Yahoo database corruption removed their backup authentication avenues

@tonydi I am pretty sure that other users with sbcglobal domain have reported the frequent time out (server disconnect) problem within the last few weeks, so I don't think it's exclusive to ATT.com or Bellsouth.com users.

Oh, that's absolutely correct.  I was saying that my sbcglobal account doesn't have any issues.  Except for one of my clients who has had the "too many logins" issue once, none of the rest of them with AT&T accounts has made a peep about issues.

That's why I don't have any logical explanation.  Of that list of things that have been reported in this forum, none of them are hitting all or even a majority AT&T accounts, just some small subset of them.

@ATTHelp   I just received an email reminding me to accept a solution to my post.  However, I have not been contacted by anyone at ATT since June 10th when I submitted the information requested via Direct Message.  Furthermore, the issue has not been resolved.  Once again I request that you contact me with a viable solution or let me and all users affected by this known issue know when to expect a solution.

@tonydi Good news on day 18 of hourly email time outs, the problem seems to be fixed.  It has held for 6 hours today so far.  The only thing I did was finally, reluctantly and begrudgingly change my password yesterday about 11 a.m., but the problem persisted the rest of the day.  Maybe logging out and closing the browser overnight made things reset.  I don't know, but am grateful at long last.

This reports about this particular Yahoo issue have seemed to have quieted down in the last day or so.  But if the password change was the fix for you I'm not as confident that's it's a real fix.

Many of the others with the timeouts were also getting the too many failed logins issue and having to change/re-enter their passwords and they still got timeouts.

Now, as I've said numerous times in these forums, most Yahoo Mail issues mysteriously just disappear one day.  Presumably someone there trips over the issue and corrects it and nothing is ever said.

So hopefully you are one of the first to discover that they've fixed it for everyone.  🤞

@tonydi  I do wonder if the password reset was the key or if it was just coincidental to ATT pushing out the fix.  The fact that several people have reported a resolution at different times, seemingly a rolling problem and solution, makes me wonder if ATT or Yahoo patched the software, but it wouldn't take effect until the user changed their password to reset or resync to update the software.  I'm no software engineer, just wondering...
