can not access email

I got kicked out of my email in April. I tried to reset my password  by clicking "forgot password". When I enter my email address and last name it says they don't have enough information. I've called att numerous times and get told different things. At one point I was told there is nothing they can do because there was no back up access.  I've had the email over 20 years- I'm pretty sure there was no such thing when I originally got the email.   One of the operators gave me a website and said someone would get back to me (they never did). Can someone please held me? I've had this email address for over 20 years- I need to gain access. Help waaahhhhhh!!!!
