BellSouth.net email Account
My BellSouth.net email account stopped working last night on my PC and smart phone. I also can access it from Web mail. I use an OAut password on all three so I don't understand why I'm now getting error messages that the account cannot be authenicated.

Thanks for providing that info.
I checked your email account. Unfortunately, there are no recovery options available. There's no other way for us to reset your password at this time. I apologize for the inconvenience. If you have any other questions, please let us know. Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.

Please help me understand how I could have this email for about 20 years and now you cannot help me retrieve it? I have years of important documents and information in there. How can nobody help me recover this, when I've had it for that long?

@Hawkngrad because AT&T screwed something up and they refuse to admit it so instead are blaming it on us users.

Spoke to someone at the DAC and what the guy I' talked to told me is that they used to be able to provide a temporary password in the event you were locked out of your email. They changed that policy and now you must have set up a 2nd form of authentication to reset your password. Those options are; a 2nd email, a phone number, or security questions (with answers). If you don't have any of those setup, or don't have the information correct, there is nothing you or they can do to help you. Having a phone number affiliated with the account but not specifically set up as a 2nd form of authentication won't work. You'll know if you do have any of those things set up by what you see when you try to reset your password. Only see the User I.D. and last name request? Yeah, you're done!
I asked when this policy was changed and how it was communicated and he had no idea. What he did know is that they have been getting calls ('tons of them"...his words) and all they can do is recommend setting up a new email.
He offered to transfer me to a supervisor but after waiting on hold for 10 minutes I hung up, knowing I would get nowhere with them.
Perhaps if enough people keep calling the DAC someone will stand up and take notice. In order to get a hold of the DAC call customer service and ask to be transferred there. If they tell you they can't, insist that they can. They'll try to push you to them chatting with someone at thee DAC on your behalf but don't let that stop you.

I am having the same problem. Forgot answers to security questions and the "temporary password" option never is offered. I have multiple attmail accounts and can access one of them but not the one that I use the most and that has my important email. (I am a former att.net employee, for what that's worth - helped get the whole thing set up, back in the day.) My "working/less-used" account will not let me enter my cell number as a recovery option because it is "already associated with another email account!" ...the one that I can't access because the temporary password option is not an option. Catch-22!

We understand how important it is to have access to your email, and we'd be happy to help you @MikePapaHotel.
In order to further help with getting you into your email account, we'll need to meet in a Direct Message. We'll need to gather some further information from you, so we're able to take a closer look into why you're unable to load your email messages. Please check your Direct Message inbox (it's the chat icon next to the bell icon in the upper right corner of the Forums).
We look forward to hearing from you.

I was also locked out of my bellsouth.net email (since 4/18/23) but I had completed the online questions at att.com/myemailinfo and today an AT&T representative called and gave me a temporary passcode to regain access. Make sure you answer your phone from strange numbers as the caller ID did not indicate AT&T and also be patient as it took almost 3 weeks for them to call. Good luck to everyone!
