Hi All,

I know some customers are seeing "looks like you tried too many times to long in" messaging and we have an answer for you.

There are a couple of reasons why this is happening:

  • You updated your password and old cookies still have the old one saved.
  • There are bad actors that are attempting to gain access to your emails

Sometimes clearing cache and cookies and reentering your password resolves this. If it is the latter, we have information below.

The culprit?

We are in the age where everything is online and there are those out there taking advantage of that. These bad actors are trying to get into everything and anything like your emails, where this useful information is found. I wish it was something AT&T could control with a switch but at the end of the day, it is a bad actor on the other side of the keyboard. I myself fell victim to this when someone got access to one of my streaming accounts.

What AT&T is doing

AT&T Security is investigating this and blocking IP addresses of those bad actors who make these login attempts. We also are locking the accounts to protect your email. You may see alert codes like:

  • Error code 205.2 - you'll have to wait a full  24 hours before resetting your password. Attempting to sign in before the full 24 hours will reset the 24-hour timer.
  • Error code 203.3 or FL002 - you'll have to reach out to our teams directly.

For more information on what you can do, check our What You Can Do section of The Dreaded 205 Error Code. Just scroll down to find it.

Here to help with your login concerns, @kstanek!

Let's gather some more information to assist troubleshooting your email better:

  • Are you trying to access your email via an email app? Such as Apple mail or Outlook?
  • Does this happen on both mobile devices and laptops/desktops?

It's possible you need to set up a secure mail key. The secure mail key will be a 16 character password that will take place of your current email password.

Depending on how you are trying to access the email, the program you are using may not be open authentication compatible, if this is the case you will need a secure mail key.

By accessing the open authentication information we have a table of compatible programs and the respective operating system that is needed to use open authentication.

Let us know if this helps!

I am trying to log in using my PC and use the sight mail.yahoo.com to access my att.net mail. Before it started to give me trouble, it gave me A message saying " Your ATT session has timed out." I have never gotten that type of message even when I leave my computor on all day. I'm not certain if it happens on my mobil devise because I dont want to log out for fear that I will be not allowed to get back into my account. I tried logging in this morning for the first time and it still told me "Looks like you tried to log in too many time. and said I need to "create a User ID or chaneg your password." I shouldn't have to change my User ID that I've been using for at least the past 15 yrs? Suggestions as to what I should do?

Hi, @kstanek.

Try creating a secure mail key like Caleb suggested and let us know if you're able to sign in.

This is a known issue by the good folks at Yahoo and AT&T. I have been trying to

login to my email account since Oct 2021. I have spent hours and hours, I lost count

on the phone with representatives, only to be elevated higher and higher to finally

I believe I was on the phone with an actual programmer with one of the companies, I don't recall which. I actually have a file and notes, pages and pages of what we tried, etc. Each time, I am told I would be called back and the call never comes.

I had that email for many years, it was even used as a primary email at my banking

establishments, and my link to the Veterans Administration doctors. I am a

disabled Veteran and link up with my primary care team through secure email instead of having to try to drive 3 hours one way for treatment and then back

3 hours again. This created a hardship. Every time one of my accounts would

send me a "code" to get into my accounts, it went to my att.net email account. So,

of course, I couldn't get into any of those accounts. I am still trying to find help for

this, but so far, it has been pretty bleak...

Hi MK, I'm sorry your having problems like this. I myself am having email issues all of a sudden on my PC.  I've called the number I was told multiple times keep getting shuffled from on robot to another and one person to another all of whom are unable to help me at all and don't know what or who to send me to then finally talk to someone that I think might can help and he said he has a bad connection... of course it sure sounded like a bad one cause I could hardly hear or understand what he was saying and it kept popping and cutting out. He got my number and said he would call back but of course he never did.  How are we supposed to get any help when we need it!!!

I too, like everyone here am having this problem. It started three days ago. This is from my desktop pc. Everytime i go to check email at signin at att.com from the yahoo home page I get the same error. To get in I have to click forgot password and change it. I'm in, but four hours later trying to check I have to do it all over again.

I have been having the error code 205 - too many sign on attempts EVERY Day this week.  I sign on once at the beginning of my day and sign out at the end.  IT IS NOT ME Attempting to access my account.  But whomever it is (if there is actually a person - starting to think this is a system issue based on these other posts) keeps trying and locking me out.  I have to go thru the process of resetting my password EVERY DAY....

There has got to be a better way and a resolution for this !!!

This is definitely their issue. I’ve dealt with the exact same issue for months. Now they say to use Currently by ATT, but you will still get the exact same error message. The only way I know to resolve it is to leave ATT and get a new email account with another provider with a more stable platform. It’s a shame, especially for people like me who have used the same email forever, but I’m not going to spend any more of my time on their issue.

it’s interesting that this started when ATT began offering a paid subscription with better service.  I don’t think they want to be in the “free email” business any longer. Have you started receiving more spam than normal by chance???
