SPAM emails deluge

Hello,

Over the last month my inbox has been deluged with spam emails. This happened just about the same time AT&T (Yahoo) started pitching and "Upgraded" service to filter spam emails? Also, AT&T moved their spam blocking capabilities to their upgraded product only.

What kind of shady business process is this?
