If I cancel my AT&T account will I lose my email address?
A common question we are asked is, "Can I keep my email if I cancel my service." The Answer: Yes you can!
What To Know
If you cancel your AT&T Internet account, you will still have access to your account as long as your account is in good standing. If there is a balance owed on the AT&T internet account, you will lose access to the email until it is resolved. To verify your canceled AT&T Internet account is in good standing, chat with us. If you break terms and conditions, the email will be deactivated.
Helpful Tips!
- Security Questions - when you cancel your services, you no longer have the ability to reset your email at att.com. It is highly recommended you set up security questions before you cancel - it makes it easier to reset passwords if you forget it!
- Merged Email Addresses - If your Yahoo email is tied to your att.net email, you do have the option to unmerge it. The att.net email is deleted when you unmerge the account. You must process the request within 30 days of cancellation.
- Tie your email to your mobile account - this will help with password resets in the future
To Unmerge the account, follow the steps below.
- Go to myAT&T, and log in with your AT&T Member ID and password.
- Select Profile > Update My Profile.
- Under AT&T Email Accounts, select Account Profile.
- Next to Member ID, select Delete Account.
- Select OK to confirm.
- Confirm that the Status at the bottom of the User Information section now reads Disabled. Your email account has been deleted.
- To continue using your Yahoo email, sign in to Yahoo mail. Select the Unmerge button in the bottom right corner of the page.

help, my mother-in-law is 85. we put her in a home and cancel uverse. she forgot her email password and the security question answers. We're lock out because she tried a million items to get in. how do I reset the password without knowing the answers to the security questions. plus, they have her home phone on file (which was canceled, not her cell phone!

how do you open your email account, if:
you cancel uverse
you can't remember your password
you can't answer the secuity questions
and at&t has the wrong phone number

I used my att.net free email account for YEARS.
As of 2 days ago, attempted sign-ins wouldn't even recognize my ID name.
There was no place to type in my password.
"Click here to prove you're not a robot".
"A code has been sent to (the email I can't get into)".
I called ATT Help. "Sometimes this just happens and we don't know why".
Years of info LOST?
I thought ATT was a leader in communications.
Any ideas on how to possibly retrieve my account?
I cannot wrap my head around how this email could just disappear without an explanation... and how they have no idea what is going on...

I cancelled my DirectTV service but kept my att email. The att email works on my laptop but stopped working on my Apple se phone. Neither Verizon or I are able to set up my att email on my Apple se. I changed my att password on my laptop but still could not set it up on my phone using Other>att>my name and my new or old password. Tried to set up a mail key in my old att account, but couldn't find a place to do that. Help! How can I get my att email back on my Apple se?

I am moving somewhere where ATT is not available. How do I know if my bellsouth.net email is tied to any other Yahoo account since ATT gave that function to Yahoo many years ago? How do I know if I have been merged into some yahoo email account (so I can unmerge that if need be) since yahoo sends my bellsouth.net email via POP to my outlook? I can reach my email account via the internet on the Yahoo mail homepage if I desire, but must first log into that yahoo page with my ATT account information.

Also lost email. Best idea I got since then: Before changing email service or internet providers back-up all of your email to a new gmail account or via mailstore.com (or a similar vetted back-up program) to your computer or external hard drive (I don't know how, just followed instructions found on you tube, took 3 days to complete the transfer process), then make sure all of the email is backed up at the new site and accessible by you so you can find and read it without being logged in to AT&T before changing or cancelling the AT&T account. This probably means setting up a new email address at the new provider, so send notice to everyone who has the old email address of your new address, whether it's through Gmail or Yahoo or Outlook or wherever you are going to use after AT&T. This alerting everyone to the new email address took several months of 'watching' to see that folks were using the new email address and only 'replying' to them from the new email address. Making a back-up of the emails seems to be the only sure way to keep all of the years of email sent and received while an AT&T customer (or while AT&T worked with that email provider) when it comes time to switch to another provider. Even when the main email address was kept last time, all of the sub-accounts still disappeared, so sub-accounts would need to be backed up also. Took about 5 days from start to finish to complete and check the back-up this time, totally worth it. It worked.

I attempted to follow these directions. But saw none of the options that you suggest when in my ATT account. I sign in under a sbcglobal url. Could this mean that my account is not tied to Yahoo or what? Not sure what to try next. I have not yet cancelled my ATT account. I wanted to separate my email address first. Please advise. Thanks, Jan
