Getting spam at att.net

I have an sbcglobal.net email. For the past two weeks, I am getting up to 10 phishing emails a day in my inbox all directed to an att.net email. How can I rectify this?

As an additional thought (that I forgot to put in the previous post), I used to get 100 spam messages a month that I would sort through (in my spam folder) and make sure there were no pertinent emails I needed, and maybe 2 emails that were missed by the spam filter that I would have to mark as spam. As I said, it had 122 yesterday and 80 of them were in my inbox that I had to mark as spam.

My password has been changed on my own accord recently and is 20 characters long with letters, symbols, and numbers and is used no where else.

@ATTHelp

So you want me to open up a known to be spam email and forward it. Something that I do not do. If the subject and from address is blatantly unknown, I mark as spam immediately, and only just yesterday (in the past two weeks) have I started leaving those in my spam folder to see the actual amount of emails that I have received.

Update your spam lists and actually filter out these emails as was done previously.

Your response was of no help to anyone. And honestly, we may all be dumber because of it.

@j007conks   You said "Previously, a user on here requested the header of the email, I can verify that my email address is not in the header of these emails, therefore, there is some BCC that is happening."

If you look at what @txakura posted at the top of this page, it's possible that your spam is directed to you via the IPv6 address rather than the more traditional way of using your email address.  As I've stated numerous times, emails just don't show up in your account without your email address (or as I learned, the IPv6 address) in the headers.

It's really curious about this whole spam flood.  I've got an sbcglobal account and a few Yahoo.com accounts, all of which have been around for a decade or more.  I'm seeing almost zero real spam. I did find two legit emails in all those spam folders, though. πŸ™„

Here are some of the addresses, I've been getting spam from for the past 3 weeks or so. Notice the vast majority uses onmicrosoft.com.Β  Some of the others use the last in this list, which is ridiculous.

That is an interesting correlation but what would be the point of this and why aim it at Yahoo Mail users?

That may have been me, I've mentioned seeing a large increase in spam on my main Gmail account.  But this started months ago, way before the Russian situation.

I understand what you're saying but why aren't all email providers seeing this?

I asked this in one of these spam threads.....do people who are getting flooded show their email address as being compromised when they enter it at https://haveibeenpwned.com/ ?  So far nobody has answered back on that.

My ATT and Yahoo email accounts show zero breaches and that might explain why I'm not seeing any spam in those accounts.

@tonydi I have a gmail, att, sbcglobal, and icloud email. My wife has yahoo and gmail. My mother has sbcglobal. My siblings have yahoo or gmail. Out of all of those, it is ONLY myself and my mother that have seen the spam increase in (possibly) an exponential level in the past two weeks.

Now I thought about it, @txakura, but I didn't say it. But you are like the ads I see on my facebook timeline. But I have thought about the Russian invasion as well.

Oddly enough that this thread is extremely active today, my spam filter is working again and the spam emails have decrease so far....unless they are being saved up.

@txakura   I'm saying the odds of people getting more spam is higher if your account is involved with these data breaches.  Especially relevant in this case for anyone whose Yahoo Mail account info was leaked out during one of the massive Yahoo breaches (3 Billion + accounts!).  Sure, if they're just brute forcing IP addresses then it's not a factor, but these breaches have been a huge part of the spam problem for a long time.

@j007conks  That's really interesting about the other accounts.  Unfortunately, we'll probably never know the reasons why any of this is happening and it's not like any of us can change things.  That's why my advice from the beginning has always been hit delete and move on.

I posted a couple of days ago about all the spam hitting my Inboxes for my two pacbell.net email accounts.  Since then, the number of spam messages increased dramatically (to almost 100 a day in my Inboxes) until this morning at which time spam messages started being diverted to my spam folders. Hopefully Yahoo has done something to fix this problem.  However, just because the spam messages are not hitting my Inbox for now does not mean that the problem is fixed.

I spoke to a friend who has a sbcglobal.net email account and she was receiving the exact same spam messages etc. as I was getting. The spam messages were also identical in my two email accounts.  Apparently not every AT&T email account was/is being impacted by this problem with Yahoo's spam filters, as I know a couple of people who have not had this problem who have pacbell.net and sbcglobal.net addresses.

I have used these email accounts for over 25 years and I have never had this problem before.

@ATTHelp . . . reporting and filtering out the sources of these spam messages may be a good idea, but I'd like to know WHY, all of a sudden, we--and many others, probably--are suddenly seeing them in our inboxes.

@gardencat   Good luck with that.  In all of the years I've been a customer of AT&T I've never once seen them give a why when there was a problem like this.  The people who talk to us in public likely don't even know and those down in the bowels of the mechanism aren't talking.

@ATTHelp

good job with the copy paste template answer that doesn’t address the underlying problem.
