Too Slow for Prime Time Hulu Plus

Roku - Hulu plus

So everything works on my roku except Hulu Plus - It will play for maybe 3-10 seconds at a time and then stops to load.  It starts nightly around 730-800 everynight for the past week. Pandora, Crackle, Netflix, any other streaming TV works just fine.  From researching Hulu Plus site apparently my internet speeds are too slow for Hulu Pluls.  I can watch Hulu in the morning and from 530pm to 730, and after that it's nothing.

Not sure why my ATT speed slows down that much, I've had the same set up for over 6 months with no problems.  Just this pass week, maybe two.

please help,

G

Is your Roku wired or wirelessly connected? If wireless, have you tried wired?

The RokuI have does not have a way to run a wire connection to it.  All other streaming channels work fine, and it does not matter or not if the laptop is up and surfing or off.

I'm also having this problem with my Chromecast. There is no wired option, and it only happens with Hulu during prime time. I have a 45mbps connection, so I'm pretty sure it isn't throughput or bandwidth issues.

Also, Google seems to not want to load its various services for minutes at a time (google.com, youtube.com, maps.google.com, etc.)

I have the same issue with hulu and my laptop.  During prime time Hulu won't load.  If it loads a show at all, it won't get past the splash page before it freezes.  Only Hulu. Only prime time.

Have all of your with issues tried contacting Hulu? If it's only happening with Hulu Plus, there may be peering congestion to their servers.

It has to be the relationship between Hulu and ATT Uverse.  I just moved and had TWC at my old place (30 meg vs 45 meg that I have now), and I never had a problem streaming Hulu or anything else.  The complex where I am now doesn't offer any other ISP or else I'd switch.  Something is def going on between ATT and Hulu as I read that they're partnering now to offer Hulu over an ATT web page and an ATT App, and also over TV possibly later on this year.  Don't know if that has anything to do with the current problem streaming Hulu, but I'd bet that it does.

Continuing my research and "chat help" with all the players... nothing has helped.  I did find this as a solution and apparently ATT has had this problem since forever, and continue to use the Modem with the issues.

"

NVG510 - its DNS settings have an issue with waiting for response from the DNS servers (they give up too fast). To see if this is an issue with your connection, go to the "Diagnostics->Logs" tab. You will need to enter the device access code which can be found on a (yellow) sticker on the modem.
Go over the log. If lines similar to the following appear, then you are having the DNS issues other people have:

2011-11-24T16:53:13-08:00 L3 dnsmasq[2478]: no responses from nameserver '68.94.156.1'
2011-11-24T16:53:13-08:00 L3 dnsmasq[2478]: no responses from nameserver '68.94.157.1'
2011-11-24T16:53:13-08:00 L3 dnsmasq[2478]: nameserver '68.94.156.1' is now"

It goes on to say to us the ATT router to hard wire to a different WiFI Router and then change your DNS settings from the ATT DNS to ones that work.  any cheap or old Router will work.

here is the site I found this info at  http://www.ron-berman.com/2011/11/24/motorola-nvg510-help-page-for-att-u-verse-users/

hope this helps the rest of you, my fix will have to wait a week or two for payday to be able to go get another router.  not priority this pay day... food is more important than tv at this time. 🙂
