sbcglobal account after cancelling AT&T internet service

The info on this site is that as long as your account is in good standing I can cancel AT&T internet service and my sbcglobal.net account (of nearly 20 years) will still be active, though without AT&T support.

I just called AT&T to confirm this and was told that as of this year if I cancel my internet service the sbcglobal.net account will be deleted.

So what's the deal?

Let's clear up the confusion, @johnapicella

Like you probably read, your SBCGlobal email will still be active even after cancelling internet service. We recommend checking these helpful tips to make accessing your email easier in the future.

Raiden, thanks to the response. The HELPFUL TIOS link led me to a page that said:

Request Error (invalid_request)

Your request could not be processed. Either 'force_deny' or 'force_exception' was matched in policy
This could be caused by a misconfiguration, or possibly a malformed request.

Not to worry, John, it's not you.  ATTHelp has a habit of posting old links that no longer work.  Whenever I post a link I always make sure it still works since this website is so wonky.

Regardless, what Raiden said is true, you're good to go under the circumstances you posted in your original post.

Hi @johnapicella Welcome to the Community!

Sorry about the link issue. I fixed it in Raiden's post, and you should now be able to access it.

@tonydi, thank you for confirming the answer for the OP.

Thanks,

Dmitriy

I finally cancelled my AT&T Home Internet service today and was told very definitely by the agent that my Yahoo sbcglobal.net email account will NOT be accessible once my account is closed, irregardless of whether or not there is a balance owing or equipment unreturned.

I told them about the assurances I was given on this forum that the yahoo account would remain active, but after checking with his supervisor two times the agent confirmed that the email account will be deleted within the next couple of weeks.

I used google gmail to copy my Yahoo account, including all the thousands of emails and attachments in my folders representing over 20 years of use, so at least I will not lose my folders full of emails and attachments.  People who use that email address to try to contact me will just be told the user no longer exists.  They could offer no means by which I could inform senders of a new email address.

It's very disappointing that AT&T finds it necessary to revoke access to my long-standing email address, but it's just exactly the sort of small-minded arrogance AT&T is known for, and it assures me that I'm doing the right thing in ending my relationship with them.

Two rules when dealing with AT&T phone "support".

  1. They're often wrong.
  2. They're often incredibly wrong.

As per the link that was posted by ATTHelp, the only time what they said is true is if you leave and you didn't do so in "good standing", meaning you have an unpaid balance and/or you didn't return a piece of equipment that you were supposed to send back.
