Port 25 - Things to know from AT&T

Email icon.png

Port 25 Blocked

Port 25 is blocked over AT&T internet. The reasons for this is to provide a more secure internet connection and reducing the amount of spam and viruses that come through Port 25. It is estimated that 80% of the e-mail traffic carried on the network is spam. Spammers have become increasingly sophisticated and go to great lengths to cover their tracks and send countless e-mails flooding your inbox and the internet.

Getting around the Port 25 Block

If you use port 25 to send E-mail, there are a few options to get around this block.

  • Configure your mail server to use a different port. Many mail servers no longer use port 25, and it may be best to get the changes made to move away from port 25.

I started having email problems about 2 weeks ago from my iPad and iPhone. It will work fine for part of the day and then I will get an error that says: account error: bellsouth. The mail server imap.mail.att.net is not responding. When I put my password in it doesn’t accept it however if I go to a pc and go to att.net and sign in it works. The att store employee told me to delete my account and read, which I did but am still having the problem every day for a portion of the day. How do I resolve this?

My att.net email started not working yesterday afternoon, I will not let me sign into my account with what I know is the correct email and password, what do I need to do to fix this?

@Bcandrews and @Jennifer2018 please start your own threads or post to a more appropriate thread than this one.  Your problems are completely off topic and unrelated to topic of this thread, i.e., the reasons port 25 is blocked.  There are many current account problem treads (unfortunately) to choose from but yours might stand out if you just create your own individual threads.

Just a suggestion.

These aren't solutions to get around port 25 issues. Clearly it states just dont use it.

How about posting a solution or giving a reasonable way to get it enabled even it requires verification.

I'm sure everyone here knows that if AT&T gave a solution to get around the port 25 issue, that would cost them money.  Unless AT&T wants to come clean, and give some reasonable solution for this.
