Hot potato here. How can I make updates when "Account Security" comes up blank and the phone no on file is obsolete?

I spoke to 4 different AT&T techs via phone and have looked up what to do if the account security link comes up  blank, and there is not a satisfactory answer I can find online. I need to update the info without running into the need for code sent to an obsolete phone number.

I can't for the life of me get the account security page to display, and apparently others have the same problem. Doesn't matter what browser. This is for an sbcglobal email address that AT&T owns. Please give me a real solution or fix the problem on the server end.

I figured this out for myself. I had to use a different browser. I could access the pages to get a security key using browsers on my phone and using MS Edge (which I seldom use). Other browsers interrupted the process by causing blank pages or looping pages (blue circle spinning and never completing the transition.) I posted the solution under a different post:

We'd be happy to look into this for you, @Wild_Blue_Iris.

Please give us more details so we can work to find a resolution.

  • Have you set up OAuth or a Secure Mail Key? With either of these, the account security page isn't really necessary.
  • What email client are you using (Outlook, Apple Mail, etc.)? We've seen this with the Yahoo! mail app, but we need to know if you're using something else.

Looking forward to your response.

I have not done either (this is for my Mom's account.) So if I help her do that, then we can by-pass the request to send a code to the defunct mobile phone?

Hi @Wild_Blue_Iris, let's get you back into your email account!

If you're using a free AT&T email and have access to myAT&T for your AT&T services, follow these steps to sign in and update your wireless number for password recovery.

Please note that your wireless number will be held on file for 30 days before you can use it to reset your password, to prevent unauthorized access to your account.

Understandably, you may not want to wait 30 to regain access to your important emails. In that case, we recommend that you follow these steps:

  1. Visit the Forgot Password page.
  2. Select Password.
  3. Enter your full AT&T email address and your last name.
  4. Select Continue.
  5. From the drop-down menu, select I'll answer my security questions.
  6. Answer the security questions that you set for your account.
  7. Select Continue.
  8. Follow the prompts to create your new password.

If these steps are successful in regain your access to your emails, then you may want to consider updating your wireless number afterwards for any future password resets, if necessary.

We hope this helps!

Please let us know if you have any further questions for us!

We're always happy to help.
